Game Crash - Locks Up

Postby Culverin » 03 May 2013, 08:52

I have recently wiped and reinstalled my OS.
This time, instead of installing via CD, I activated my code on steam and installed it there.

I have tried a couple 1 vs AI game and it seems that quite late into the game (late T3), the game locks up completely and freezes.
It seems to have happened with the latest FAF version and Black Ops.
I cannot even alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del and force an "end task". My only way out is to reboot the computer.

The only activated mod I have installed is GAZ UI.

Is there anything I can do to try to narrow down the problem?
There is no indication of if or when the crash is going to take place, except it has crashed each time since my re-install.

I'm Hoping you guys have some advice to share.

Thanks.

Weird, I would go with something other than the game being at fault. Two reasons for that.

First it's your whole computer that locks up - not just the game (it's not 1998 any more...).
Second it's late game - so there should be lots of things going on and your hardware gets taxed.

In my professional opinion this is probably hardware related... It could be bad code or whatever that just cause your pc to max out..hmmm - look at it this way: Think of your pc as being asthmatic, it can operate fine in day to day activities, but the moment you give it some exercise it's starts having problems.

What happens if you watch a reply of the same game or any other game that developed into a massive war. Maybe watch a reply with allot of players on it. How's your other games doing, play something that really taxes your system where you get lag.

Under, I totally get what you're saying. I'm having some hardware issues with my computer as well. However, I thought they were regarding a tertiary HDD I use for storage. I didn't think they would be related.

I got another crash.
This time, I disabled GAZ UI, it locked up again playing vanilla FAF.

Multiple things.

The cause of the crash : The driver fail because FA create a GFX problem.
The cause seems to be a massive script failure.

Code: Select all
warning: Error running OnStartBuild script in Entity uel0105 at 178a8b08: ...amdata\faforever\gamedata\faforever.faf\lua\game.lua(77): attempt to perform arithmetic on local `time' (a nil value)

No idea what you are doing exactly. BUT

Code: Select all
warning: Unable to find file /mods/hotbuild/hotbuild.lua

warning: stack traceback:

warning:         [C]: in function `doscript'

warning:         [C]: in function `pcall'

warning:         ...alliance\gamedata\mohodata.scd\lua\system\import.lua(48): in function `import'

warning:         [string "import('/mods/hotbuild/hotbuild.lua').build..."](1): in main chunk

warning: Error running lua command: [string "import('/mods/hotbuild/hotbuild.lua').build..."](1): Error importing '/mods/hotbuild/hotbuild.lua'

         stack traceback:

                [C]: in function `error'

                ...alliance\gamedata\mohodata.scd\lua\system\import.lua(52): in function `import'

                [string "import('/mods/hotbuild/hotbuild.lua').build..."](1): in main chunk

Start removing hotbuild first, or fix it. I think its the base of your problems.

If it does not work, a replay of what is causing the crash is mandatory, or I will have to play a guessing game.

Cools. That helps.
I'll try a fresh reinstall and see if the same thing still happens.
