SC:FA and FaF problem

Postby Iron_Alpha10 » 19 Apr 2013, 20:47

Hello tech wizz people,

Looking for some help with a crippling issue that I haven't been able to solve yet.
There's 2 issues that I'm not certain are related.

1 - In the basic Forged Alliance game, when I attempt to play a skirmish game, I can get into the lobby, but there is no map visible, and many settings refuse to change and The game will not launch from the skirmish lobby.

2 - on FAF, when I attempt to host a game, I cannot get into the lobby. Upon doubleclicking the desired mod, the game client starts, doesn't make any progress, and just shows me an empty black screen which can be closed through process manage with no error report visible. I have tested this second issue with UPnP on and off with no effect.

So far I have attempted reinstalling Forged Alliance, computer restarts and uPnP both on and off. I am running the latest public version of FAF.

The campaign seems to work fine even with the campaign mod enabler mod.

Is there anyone out there who has found a solution to either of these issues, or who can give me an idea where to look for a solution, as this is currently making FA unplayable for me. THANKS :D

If you search the forum, you'd find many posts regarding this issue. The campaign runs fine because you're not shown a proper lobby before gating in. Secondly, tell FAF to log FA by going to Options > Settings... > Save game logs. Thirdly, modify FAs icon to run FAFs version of FA:

Right click the icon
Click Properties
In the Target field type:
C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe /log "C:\ProgramData\FAForever\logs\game.log"
In the Start in field type:
C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\
Click Apply then OK

The problem you're having is because FA is attempting to find a color that does not exist in your Game.Prefs file (C:\Users\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\Game.prefs, by default). Open that file in notepad and find the line:

Code: Select all
LastColor = ,

and change it to:

Code: Select all
LastColor = 1,
