Certain in-game sounds are missing

Somehow many of the in game sounds are not playing even though the sound is enabled within game settings and the interface makes sound when I use it. For example no sound plays when a unit fires it's weapon but if I open the menu the interface sounds play when hovering over options. To add to this, most of the time there is no background music but occasionally the battle music will play for a minute or two and then stop returning me to silence. I have no idea when this started as it's been a week or two since I last had the chance to play but I had full sound then. If it makes any difference I use headphones for my primary audio output and also have speakers plugged into the computer.

I have tried this also, but my laptop's internal speakers are already on stereo. Cannot, for the love of God, hear anything at all when I play the game. No sound whatsoever... what could fix this?

I looked over the thread...I play on a laptop; most people that can't hear anything are playing on laptop and think maybe it's the integrated sound cards. Could getting some speakers solve this problem or perhaps getting a better sound card?

Did you try (and is it even possible) in mono mode?
