Can this laptop run FA?

Postby ChrisTohFer » 03 Jan 2013, 20:22

Recently I came back to supcom after a long time of not playing. I don't remember it running particularly smooth before, but now my laptop seems to really struggle to play the game; it's pretty consistently the slowest computer in any FAF game I play.

Just to make sure my memory isn't playing tricks on me, should this laptop be able to run the game?

Processor: Intel i5-2520M, 2.5GHz clock speed and 3.2GHz turbo
Memory: 4GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

I'm not sure anything else would affect in-game performance but if it does please tell me.

While on the topic, does anybody know any software issues that would cause a PC to slow down with time?

Dude, the first comp I played on was a Pentium M 1.6 Ghz, 1GB of RAM and Geforce Go 6200. I now enjoy the game flawlessly on a Pentium T4300 2.1 Ghz, ATI Radeon Mobility 4570 (512MB) and 4 GB of RAM.

For general speeding up of computer, I'd recommend downloading CCleaner and Spybot Search & Destroy (get v1.6.2, not v2). I'd link but I'm on my phone, Google will find them easily though.

Also msconfig.exe - this is a utility built into Windows that controls what loads on startup. Click the run bar and type msconfig, then press enter. Go to the services tab and disable anything that looks like it's unnecessary, then go to the startup tab and do the same. Apple, Adobe, Googleupdate are amongst the biggest offenders, but basically you want to uncheck everything that you don't need to start when the computer starts, which is pretty much everything.

Exercise some caution, but don't worry too much because if you disable anything important you can always reboot in safe mode and re-enable it.
