Hey everyone, recently FAF got approached with an opportunity to help the real world (yes real people not fake internet ones) through the usage of our client as a piece of a major charity event! On
August 28th - 30th the gaming charity LANFest is putting on a FREE weekend-long 2v2 RTS Pentathalon featuring Forged Alliance Forever along with other RTS classics! The event is going to be hosted by the Emerald City Chapter out of Seattle, WA, in the US and the funds will benefit food banks impacted by the ongoing pandemic.
General Information Link: https://lanfest.com/events/ecl-spring-2020/mainThe event is going to revolve around 5 games (as you would expect):
1. Command & Conquer Remastered
2. Starcraft
3. Age of Empires II DE
4. FAF
5. Starcraft 2
What is the Tournament Structure? The tournament is going to follow a round-robin format and be based on 2v2s in all 5 games. I do not really have much detail on the other segments, but I helped out in organizing the FAF segment so I can let you guys know it will follow the traditional 2v2 ruleset. The games will be in full share and the map choice will mainly be the more intuitive 2v2s to accommodate a more inexperienced player pool. The time table for the tournament segments can be seen in the schedule link below, so there's no need to be paranoid about a 10 hour 2v2 tournament here.
Are You Interested in Playing? In order to play, simply arrive at the times described in this event calendar in order to check-in for the tournament segment:
https://lanfest.com/events/ecl-spring-2020/scheduleCheck-in and general tournament organization will happen through the LANFest Discord made for the event. The Discord is:

You are free to play whatever segments interest you, however prizes will be given out based on your performance across all 5 games. This means that if you have any interest in the prizes, you should be aware that a failure to check-in could harm your chance of winning.
On that note, in order to be
ELIGIBLE for prizes, such as gaming accessories from the event's sponsors, you must provide a $25 buy-in through a Weekend Pass ticket. Rest assured, the ticket's proceeds are donated to charity. If prizes or donating to the charity interest you, please proceed to this link:

Are You Interested in Watching? If you're interested in watching FAF's players stumble through other games and the veterans of other games stumble through FAF, be sure to mark the following times down in your calendar:

https://twitch.tv/lanfestIn addition, the event organizers have expressed interest in having one of our more experienced community members join them in casting the FAF segment of the tournament in order to help the unfamiliar audience (and of course them) have an easier time understanding what's going on, why it's going on, and how it's going.
Are You Interested in Donating? If donating to the charity interests you, please proceed to this link:
https://lanfest.com/donateFinal CommentsThis event is a great way to present FAF to audiences that might not be familiar with the game but share the common link of enjoying RTS games, or at least watching them. It would be great if not only we had people participating in the event to showcase the community, but if we had people in twitch chat during the event as well. It's a great opportunity to give the best face for FAF and really anybody and everybody that wants to increase interest in the community can easily help out in their own way during the event.
Good luck to those that choose to participate!
