Mandatory seeding for competitive tournaments.

I think going forward in competitive tournaments, there should be an implementation of seeding which is based off of the players highest rating, which gives them a seeded ranking in that tournament, the initial match ups should then be determined from these seeding's to ensure the most skilled players progress as far as possible in the tournament. Less skilled players progressing further based on complete and utter luck or just sheer stupid decision making seriously seriously seriously angers me and i'm sure I am not the only player left feeling like this due to the current organization of competitive tournaments.

how would a td decide which match ups to make?

i am wondering if this is a joke post. surely a tournament should be based on how the player performs in the tournament

The point he's trying to make is that currently you can end up in the top 3 because of luck. A good example i remember is one of the LoTS qualifiers where, by pure chance, almost all of the top ladder players got placed in the lower part of the bracket. To get in the finals Adjux had to face mephi, blast_chilled, turin and petric (3 of the top ladder players and 1 semi top). Meanwhile Nexus had to face armaster, yudi, morax and bravo (1 good ladder player and 3 players that dont belong anywhere near the top). I'm not saying nexus didn't deserve the place in the finals or that he otherwise wouldn't have gotten there, but the easy bracket surely helped him get there, and if any of the other players from the lower part of the bracket would've been in his place instead their chances of reaching the finals would've greatly increased.

While it could be done that for 'professional' tournaments the TD meticulously crafts a bracket I would argue it also puts participants under the obligation that they:
1. Don't sign up 3 seconds before the tournament starts
2. Actually show up for tournaments they do sign up for
3. Actually play the matches they sign up for

There is not much effort involved for the TD. Challonge has a seeding system. All you have to do is assign higher seeds to higher rated players.

from a casters point of view some kind of seeding and evening out the skill gaps would also help if we could not have so many one-sided matches early on. often with 8 matches in round 1 there is maybe 1-2 that wont be stomps

While Challonge has a seeding system after checking I see no way to assign values to players in an effort to make the opening matches in the way you describe.

Seeding matches the highest rank vs the lowest rank. However some mid-tier matches are evenly matched. Let's say it's an 8 player tourny

1 vs 8
4 vs 5

3 vs 6
2 vs 7

4 vs 5 should be optimal balance, while 3 vs 6 is not too imbalanced either.

Having balanced matches early on is not the point of seeding however. The point is to ensure that the best players meet at the finals, not in round 1. This ensures that the top3 is as representative of tournament performance as possible.
