A bit disappointed that its hard 5km restriction :(
If it was soft e.g. playable area has to fit into 5km square then i surely would have entered with my E P I C submission!

What are the most important factors that will be judged?

Is this more about how pretty is the map, or what kind of gameplay it offers?

I am just wondering, because i never made any maps, but always wanted to, and this would be the perfect motivation for me to make one. But I cant compete with ppl who have years of mapping experience, they know how to use the textures, lightning, they now how to make the map pretty.
But on the other hand, there are some really ugly maps that are really good gameplay wise, so i dont think it would be hard for a noob to make a map like those, if he has a good understanding of the gameplay, and has a good map layout idea.

I know you will probably look at both factors, but to put it simply: should we even bother with submitting ugly maps?

Apologies, wanted something easy. Other sizes will come later!

Correct.

Sure, go ahead.
It's just like regular tournies, someone with 100s of ingame hours will most likely beat someone who has never played, but you might surprise people.

I've got a small problem with the map editor. How exactly do I place decals? I can somehow make something appear in the list on the left of the screen, but can't get them on the map...

I'm not a port of call for the new editor, you'll have to check the wiki site for it.
Also, this isn't the place.

Intentional unbalances will result in a DQ

.. basically at least 99% of the submissions will be symmetrical, thus very likely play the same from all / most positions, thus likely boring after a few replays.

Why is asymmetry frowned upon so heavily? When it comes to terrain, asymmetry feels more natural, less controlled.
You might as well say that, only tournament style maps will be accepted.

So, why is asymmetry not considered competitive? I think it is more like it than a symmetrical arena.

Lets give player 1 2 starting mexes
Lets give player 2 6 starting mexes
no idea why this isn't considered competitive
