WWPC 2016 Map Pool

Click here for the WWPC Tournament Info

If you have suggestions for the WWPC map pool you can post them here.

Right now there are two pools. The BO5 pool which champions/challengers may choose maps from for their BO5, and theKnockouts pool which contains the maps that are given to the challengers for their knockout games.

Why are there two pools?

I think it's best to keep the knockouts pool easy and have maps in it that are in some sort "global". But this thread is all about suggestions so if you think it's a bad system please do let me know.

Rules

- If both players agree it's allowed to play a map that's not in the BO5 map pool.
- When in doubt different versions of maps should be discussed with the TD.
- Complaints about a map that wasn't in the pool or something similar after the game has been played will most likely be ignored.

On to the map pools then, here's an up-to-date list...

No Mephi. Bad Mephi.

Couple of decent looking 5x5 maps (even though that feels like an oxymoron sometimes) you might want to add to one or both pools:
Boogie-Woogie
TAG_voi vittu
Esgaroth Ruins

Some team game maps possibly worth adding:
Flooded tabula rasa (maybe the unflooded version too)
Diversity
Mozdoc Sprecial (note the typo :p)
Stella Maris (and/or the 1v1 version)
Selkie Isle

I don't feel strongly about any of these maps. But yes Bermuda Locket should be there if it wasn't.

I think the two pools is a good thing, it might be worth getting the knockout pool down to really uncontroversial, highly played maps so it's not difficult to have or get a good build and have tactics and strategy decide challengers for the Bo5.
Spoiler: show
Slight tangent, but still relevant when talking about map pools and map choices: I think some change to the finals with the same goal, to not have BO advantage repeatedly deciding games in the final (for either player, it often happens for both players in the same final). My preference would be pre-announced map choices for both players.

That's a pretty small list. I agree with Zock's philosophy about having the last say, though. Kalvirox and I are keeping somewhat open minds with player demands, which quite coincidentally led to us removing Emerald Crater since Zock is one of the few people who like it : )

Kalvirox and I will duke it out on the mentioned maps to test them out soon.

As for the spoiler with the tangent, let's keep that to the WWPC Effectiveness thread, please.

Pls dont remove emarald crater its a great map and rly fun to play.
It is also sth different than the average turtle and eco/get gun and win. Also tech3 (harb) rush should be less of a high reward. This map supports tactic so the game is more decided by attention, scouting, and mapcontrol.(what would consider the essence of supreme commander!)

Hey cpu42, I agree and disagree with some points and others there. The cold, hard facts are that mostly everyone can't stand it. I think that maps like Niflheim, Loki, Point of Reach, Eye of the Storm, and others require more territory/army position that you speak of. Niflheim is one of the most technical and difficult maps to play for this reason with its dynamic land laylout and scattered reclaim fields.

If enough people want to reverse the decision we will certainly consider it....

Posts like this really make me sad. I don't like removing maps that people like.
I also don't like removing ladder maps from this map pool either.

But a heck of a lot of people really don't like that map.

It is also sth different than the average turtle and eco/get gun and win.

There are plenty of other maps that do this. Plenty. Forbidden pass V4 is the first that comes to mind. Niflhiem Final is the second. But they are designed so that they are nicer to play in most peoples opinions. Because they are not as big as emerald crater.

Personally I like the Scar for the same reasons you like emerald crater. But people hate that map even more :) .

I knew we were missing a couple of maps. That is without a doubt one of them.

See. Originally we had team game maps in like Canis 4v4 and Pyramid ect. But we took them out.

I am completely open to having team game maps in the pool. I have had 1v1 games against Viper Casted on 4v4 Canis and on Pyramid. The games we have played on Tabula Rasa, Hilly Plateau and other team game maps were good fun too, you would be surprised about how good of a 1v1 map wonder is.

The issue here, once again, was that very few people actually played on them. Infact Tokyto_ picked them more often than the rest of the WWPC champions combined.

If people want team game maps in then Say So.
One thing with that though. There are a few teamgame maps that I will go out of my way to say 'no this is not going into the map pool' of which Morax will undoubtably agree. Gap, Thermo, RushMeMore. And those really really stupid 1 chokepoint turtle maps are pretty much all of them.

That map is so cancerous I would rather play setons 1v1 than that.
