Clan wars

Postby Stups » 02 Jul 2015, 21:56

I would like to bring back "clan wars". but make it into regular seasons. so the next one will start in the fall probably (September/October).
To start from somewhere im gonna borrow most of the concepts found in football tournaments and make a few changes. (any ideas are welcome)

Guidelines:
-Clans must register the participating members before the season starts.
-Each clan are allowed to add one new player to the roaster during the season.
-A minimum of 7 registered players, up to 12.
-Home and Away games: the home team picks the map.
-Games are held every Tuesday or Wednesday (I will open a discussion with clan leaders if they prefer it on weekends)

    Group Stage:
      -Games are 4v4.
-One point is scored for ACU kill.
      -Three points for a win.
-First and Second leading teams in the group qualify for the next stage.
-Every two clans play twice. Home and Away.

      Map pool (8 players):
kolora, wonder, pyramid, hilly plateau, tabula rasa, canis, forestplanet, green batsign, cauldron, mountain pasture, goodlands

    Knock-out stage:
      -Games are 5v5.

      Map pool:
        (updated soon)

Restrictions to avoid dirty tactics and keep the game clean and fun (the following rules if broken will cost you points):
-Exit game via score screen to avoid desynced replays.
    -SACU spam.
    -Hover bomber.

The aim is to have fun. Don't worry about stacked clans, team-play wins over individual play.

Hm, no individual play for me :(
Kinda wanted to see different game types here, like 1v1 2v2 3v3 etc.

Also i think weekends are generally better for scheduling games.

well, it's more focused on how much the clan members play well together. if there's popular demands we could have another tree for 1v1 and 2v2. But in that case i would prefer starting those by playin in-clan playoffs before reaching the tournament tree.

When Zep did the original one. It was 2 1v1's 2 2v2's and a 3v3.
I am all up for having a 4v4 as well.. But I think a lot of people would like it kept to a similar format.
Some people (like me) don't like playing team games. So 1v1 is like, The only other real option... Mind you I could put up with a 2v2.

Some month ago, i tried to make a team tourney, but due to lag of time it didn't take place. Maybe some parts of my tourney could be useful for clan wars. With a few changes here and there, i think it should work. E.g. instead of 2v2s and 4v4s there could be 1v1s and 2v2s.
And the rating restrictions have to be removed for sure!

Here are the original rules:
Global rules:

- Team Double Elimination
- max. 6 players per team
- Standard ladder game options
- Exit game via score screen to avoid desynced replays

How it works:

Each round contents two 2vs2s with two fixed and different subteams with max 3.5k summed up global rating per team and two 4vs4s with max 7k summed up global rating per team . The subteams can only be varied in each round so assemble them wisely!

Points:
- 2 points for a 2vs2
- 3 points for a 4vs4
- no bonuses for anything (killed acus, eaten peaces of pizza etc.)

At the end of each round the total amount of points counts.

In case of a draw there will be one 2vs2 tie brake game. Each team has to send in their best and their weakest player!

The captain of the winner team has to report the result and upload the replays in a forum thread.

Maps:
Spoiler: show
The 2vs2s are played on:

Round 1:
- Forbidden Pass v4
- Theta Passage 5

there was also a nice idea of a clan league of sorts, where rather than playing out scheduled games, clans are encouraged to host clan games vs each other, and can do so as much as they like, meaning the activeness of a clan is rewarded also, not just the average rating in it.

i would really like to see this but this system would be harder to set up and run, ideally this would have a lobby section and clan leaderboards to go with it.

in any case, i think you could try making a tournament where all kinds of clan members could participate, with lots of different brackets and players - i.e. a noob 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, ect. and if a clan doesn't have enough people to fit some specific restrictions then they get 0 points in that bracket, if they fail to play their game within a time limit they also get 0 points, so the tourney isn't held up by some clans having the players but not having the time.

I expect about 30-50% of the matches to be unplayed and that's fine, you just total up the scores, maybe give some weighting to the rating brackets, or even not, and then declare the winning clan.

TLDR - organize a tourney which is resistant against noshows and give opportunities for all types of players to participate in all types of games.

yeah i also think at only 4on4 is a bit boring, especially on those overplayed maps. And i dont understand why knockouts should be 5on5
mix it a bit up so we get some more diverse gameplay(hopes for 2on2  )

well as said, there's plenty of 2v2 and 1v1 tourneys going on :( we need something on a larger scale. wont hurt to try it out. also if you have suggestions for more team maps, please share.

Do the old clan war format, it worked fine, every single game except for 1 was played over the course of 6 weeks and it was fun.
