This is really, really cool! I knew there was a lot of model prep involved in 3D printing, but jeez, I had no idea all those supports had to be built by hand. Very nice work.

It is possible to do automatic support, but by the time you get done fighting it with a dremmel tool, it will look like a pile of garbage.

I'm working on some SC units as well.

But I kind of use a different method as I dont want to have my designs static. (I want movable guns and such)
Supcom -> blender -> designspark mechanical

In the last program I import the mesh and completely redraw them to make a solid part that can be properly sliced.
This way i can also choose to leave the weapons out to print them seperately. additionally, it allows me to prevent support material being nessecary in places I cannot reach.

Currently im working on the Cybran T3 battleship which is getting close to completetion but i got a Rhino ready:
Rhino assembled
Rhino parts

I want to make many more units as I simply love how they look. :D

Great work.

Is it possible to get the units as .obj files (I dont work with Blender etc.)?

Not for as far as I'm aware. But i cannot say i looked much further than this first option.

And I dont really use Blender either. the only thing i do with blender is importing from SC, and then exporting it right away.

So just get blender and use it to export the units to .obj :D

that'd be an awesome price for tourneys instead of just price money. exclusive stuff! if you're interested in contributing you could take a look in here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10025
also pm Gyle or BRNKoINSANITY. I bet they'd love to be promoting that.

Watching the "making of" videos I can see that you look up the IDs of the unit online but then there is a "Supcom units" folder on your desktop with all the needed files. Where can I find this folder?

EDIT
solution: go to the game folder => gamedata => units.scd => rename to units.zip => extract files
