Rage and Losing Quitter Hall of Fame

Postby HotFog » 27 Apr 2015, 02:27

Too often, i have played a game where the win hangs in the balance and it is all destroyed by a quitter. I can completely understand a dc as it has happened to me too, but a rage quit or just a "I cant be bothered to continue" quit is a problem for a lot of team players as it so often costs the game.

So, to discourage the idea that there's no consequence for cowardice, I am starting a Forum post to list the names of these enemies of victory.

To be fair, anyone can post a player's name BUT the name has to be accompanied by the replay number as proof.

I am not interested in starting a witch-hunt but rather an accurate database of those players who quit so that i can elect to play or not with them in a team.

Please feel free to contribute.

And one day, when I grow up, I will learn how to program and add the feature into FAF player statistics - number of games played, number of games completed, number of games incomplete.

I've quit a lot of games and got shit for it. I just did a few days ago again. Do I care ? No.

Is it cowardice as you say ? no.
Does it spoil the game ? no.

With enough experience, you can easily tell when a game is over. So when there's really no hope left, I do not see any need to waste my time more.

I will admit, I was not always right in my judgement, and some games could have been saved. Although I estimate this ratio to be 1%, so I' ll live with it.

Oh note that , since I play "full share", a DC is not really a major unfair game changer.

Also I did note from experience, that whiners about you quitting "u noob, bla bla", are usually the weakest players in their team, or at least players with little clue regarding the game. Coincidence probably.

I agree, at first I found this difficult but then I realised quitting was ok once the "score" button pops up.

More seriously, posting a list of names is a deeply insensitive thing to do (and also quite vindictive), much more so than quitting a game.

A witch hunt is exactly what would happen if you did this.

To be fair though a players quit % should be part of their stats. There is no reason i can think of why this shouldn't be shown.

Well that game, 2 days ago :

min 13 or 15, something like that.Setons for a change.

- Our air dude just completed his t3 air fac and in any case had no assist or close on it.
- Our mid base got wiped out almost entirely, and I was spamming t1 and t2 lands from my factories from beach
- Our rock position was under heavy siege and had very little eco compared to his opponent
- I was getting harassed by cybran t2 navy while being sera on beach (so outranged, and still spamming shitloads of tanks to try and hold mid) and I was slightly behind in navy units even if I had better eco.
- opponent air was swirling all over the place with asf and strats

=> quick thinking

- I do not have time to build even one cruiser, as Im already behind
- My t2 mexes will soon vanish because of absolute lack of t3 air support when strats are flying in our zone (no sam were to be seen either)
- That rock guy is long gone, so is mid

=>> Shit I need to save that game without air, with a eco soon to be strated against some non absolute retards.

=> CTRL + K. note NO RAGE at all. Just, waste of time. If I wanna play survival, I go host that map lol.

But hey I got insults and other whining. Pls note that I do not care, and those players opinion doesnt' matter at all to me. But the point is, those kind of players have absolutely no clue what is salvageable or not. Period. But it's not new. This was true already on GPGnet. It's not another FAF wrong doing.

If my analysis of recovering form such a game was wrong, please enlighten me so that I work on my magical side. much appreciated.

There are games that are worth holding on and fight. Jeez how many of those shits have I endured (and won) with gala 2v4 ...

But there's fighting, and there's purely wasting time.

And again, and again, 99% of the people complaining about quiting are players with very little clue about the game. Having a 1400 rank and being able to slightly reproduce another player's play is NOT "having a clue" about the game in my book.

After reconsidering games, and replaying others, I estimate to have been wrong in my judgement in what max 10 games, out of 6000. Yeah I can live with that and be called a quitter if need may be :)

Well at least your honest about several things...

1) Your only in it for yourself as apparently your time is more valuable than everyone else's. Never mind anyone else's enjoyment of the game or what they may of learnt from the experience.

2) When the things go badly (for what ever reason) you'd rather bail than attempt to help your team. No matter how bad your team maybe by CTRL-K'ing your've basicly handed the opossition a win without so much as a fight. Now while that maybe an understood / acceptable move in some play circles, don't assume that everyone will be ok with this.

IMO playing to win-it also means playing it through, unless someone is being an arse there's no justifiable reason to CTRL-K while your ACU can still contribute. After all it's always possible to come back and win or at the very least make the match hard won.

Ninja a Edit: Be humble and a good sport as after all there was a time that even you were a noob...

Cheers,

Resin

Even if your judgement is correct 100% of the time, there would be someone blaming you. Maybe that's not the point. I didn't watch the replay, but if you just chat to your mates and say "it's desperate i wanna quit and start a new one". If no one reacts after a minute than it was just kind to ask, If you get from all "NO! LETS CONTINUE" and you quit than you really are an asshole!

To quit is, with a very few exceptions, never good. Even if you know that the game is definitely lost you and your team can still learn how to handle bad situations better. If someone (maybe like _V_ or Gala) is already very good then he can help others to get better in handling hopeless situations.

Just my five cents as a 1400 rank ;)
