Rating System Flawed

Postby KD7BCH » 13 Apr 2015, 17:04

Seems players can exploit this system and are actively doing it for rating and expense of players playing.

Examples...
Seems to be a pervasive belief from anybody over 1K that anybody below that is too noob to play against or challenge them.

Players are on occassion waiting until just the last moment before quitting before an impending kill shot is coming and pulling out, and what is the net result, nobody on the victory team gets a bump correct?

Players with higher rank say 1500 simply wont get in a team game with anybody in the 700-1000 range because if they happen to play sloppy and lose they fall pretty hard from that, and then their cohorts wont play with them if they fall to 1400 or 1300.

Anybody under 10 games seems to get boot after boot after boot from team games where they stand to learn and it is really really hard in the first 50 games to get a game going because nobody seems to think they have any ability.

Maybe these are just problems I see but I think this whole rating system is rather detrimental to the community and new players getting better. Educate me in how I am wrong. Why do players quit just before you kill them denying you their kill? I dont get it? Why do players leave games before they start because the ratings aren't right? I am not talking about stacked games which I also think are bullshit, I'm talking about the 1500 leaving because hes alone at 1500 playing with a mix of 700-1400?

Maybe my understanding of this rating system is flawed and I am no expert but are there any improvements under review?

No that's not right. Read about the rating system here.

Denying you an ACU kill will not cause a change in rating -- so long as you are the winner the rating is updated accordingly.

While some might feel so, I haven't really had trouble to find a game while I only have 40 games. Sure, joining a game stating ">1.5k" when you are 400 will certainly result in a kick, but I believe it's fair enough. I have been in teams with 1.2k-1.4k since the beginning, and I'm only 800-900 now.

Well, yesterday I played a 3v3 with a 1.8k, 1.7k, 1.1k and 3x 800. Seems it can happen :)

I appreciate the education on how the system works. There is still a problem for low game players getting into games and not being kicked, instead of balanced.

That's because low-ranked players also tend to be low-skill players (what a coincidence!) and some people don't like playing with large skill gaps on their team.

I really don't understand the problem. If you are a low ranked player host/join low ranked games. Once your rating has increased you are more than welcome to join 1k+ games. I have had enough games with low ranked players who kept telling me that they are awesome and they were not. Not at all.

They don't let taxi drivers into formula 1 either. You can always host your own games and let everyone play and balance lower rated players if you are not pleased with the other hosts though.

I'm quite surprised really.

From my perspective, FAF is welcoming beginners a looot. It's probably the largest portion of games being played, at least it's my feeling.
Never saw actually figures of games # where median rating was below 1.2k.

Worst case, just host your own "all welcome" and that's it. It should even fill much faster than the higher rated games ;)

I'd second that, I've been blown away by people's willingness to associate with beginners. Right from being invited into a clan, having numerous games with people 3 x my rating not to mention people who take time out just to look at your games and help you improve. I've even had a game where I was up against Vee ffs!

There has been a few negative instances where people don't treat you well because of your lack of skill but I've put that down to the people involved being a bit immature, not really a fault of the system :-)

For my part, I can't understand why you'd want to play against really good players all the time. I don't personally enjoy getting consistently demolished, I'd rather maintain a nice 1:1 ratio for wins / losses so I don't get demoralized!

Like the others said just do more hosting yourself, join a clan and train with better players when you get the oppertunity and don't join games which exclude your rating (unless someone invites you!) :-)
