Why are you only allowed to watch the last 100 or so replays

I enjoy looking at replays from the vault, but if they aren't your own, there seems to be no way to watch games from yesterday or earlier. I have been trying to google the direct php version of the vault, but it does the same thing. It's possible to blindly stumble backwards in time by selecting random players and following their games, but why does it not let us just look at a previous date?

The reason for not showing all the games is because there are hundreds of thousands. You do not want to poll that. If you have a specific replay ID you can download the replay for that game. As to searching by a particular date. I guess its just something that was never implemented. If you know the date you could just know the replay ID.

I think the complaint was about the limit of how far behind you can go seeing the past replays, not the ability to see the whole db I kinda agree with that too, sometimes when you're away for 2-3 days and wanna watch some nice replays, they just end too soon.

There's no technical reason for not being able to do this -- we do need to ensure that a solution has proper performance characteristics though.

If you can store more stuff about a replay it would probably even be interesting to look for a lucene-like solution (SolR, ElasticSearch). Text search, facetted search etc.

add sql to FaF lobby.

sql can show a million results without breaking a sweat. also it only loads on screen what your currently viewing, and loads the next bunch when you scroll down a la 9gag or facebook.

of course it would need some good filter where you can search for something.
also it should work with sql and show max 200 games.
the filter would enable us to select the date, the rating of the players, the map
(the filter right now does not seem to work real well with maps), the players name, the length, the faction.

also cool would be to be able to rate the replay.

I'd also like to go back further, however, there are still those filter options at the top right corner! If you filter for a specific map for example you'll be able to go back many days, weeks even if the map isn't played alot. Or filter for a specific player. It also helps to filter for a mod - filtering for Ladder for example eliminates casual and multiplayer games, filtering for FAF vice versa.

This isn't perfect, though, and the filters are sometimes iffy, especially the one about maps isn't always filtering correctly and handles wildcards badly. And, of course, there is no filter for dates.
