Why did I not know about this feature?

Postby SeraphimLeftNut » 18 Mar 2015, 05:25

Spread attack can now be used for move orders....
This is such a massive change to the mechanics and micro... (I will make videos about this in the near future)

I have an excuse for not knowing this, I maybe a dumbass, however

How are new players or more importantly players who are returning and have not played this game for a year suppose to know about this?

In the keybinding screen this command is still listed as spread attack. Why would anyone use it for move order?

I agree it is an obvious thing to try and I have tried it and I am sure many people have and of course we found out that it doesn't work.

Now it has been implemented... Which is awesome.

All I want people to take away from this is to tell people about this as much as you can, because just saying "shift +g" or spread attack is not going to convey to people that you can use it with move orders.

Furthermore explain to people that this is an effective way to prevent units from moving as a group. (MrAesthetic I am sure would have loved to know about this)
This feature allows to get units to move faster to their destination especially around rough terrain.
This feature allows a player to direct units through tight spaces such as choke points.
This features allows for huge micro advantages in t1 land battles.

Don't just tell people that you can do a spread move order but explain to them the implications.

I think this is going to be fun

Thanks. This should help navy too I suppose. In not forming groups with massive spacing.

Hmm i knew about it since the time i started using this command.
But it was more like annoying shit that got in the way, when you give your bombers attack commands and missclick a unit so you have to redo the orders again. Never thought it would be actually useful elsewhere...

This is not a new feature.

Crotalus has some changes to spreadattack that are meant to go in the next balance patch, but spreading move orders has worked since introduction in patch 3626, here.

I have thought this as well. Especially when taking over a teammate's base, I just want to grab a bunch of engineers, queue up all the mexes, and then split the orders so that they don't take a year to do it.

If you could do it with an attack move from factory that'd kind of be a game changer...

see this: http://forums.faforever.com/forums//viewtopic.php?f=42&t=9379

it works in there.

but the problem with spread attack imo is that it distributes the orders randomly and not in a specific way - so 5 engies building walls on split atack is not super efficient, but still works.

what id like to see is a non-random distribution of the commands - that would be great!
