Is it possible to enhance performance in FA?

Hello,

and thank you for participating in this forum - I didn't know FAF existed until yesterday so I'm really pleased to get into Supreme Commander again.

I just came from Supreme Commander 2 which runs perfectly on my computer but with a rating of (only?) 304 Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance begins to slow when just 50 or so units moves around. Is 304 a bad performance? Can't it be enhanced somehow? I know that a minimum of other applications should run at the same time but what about tools or mods - do they help?

Maybe I should ask another way - Is a rating of 304 very bad and therefore it's understandable that the game slows down when there's many units on the field?

Do you, like me, have the settings on maximum or do you keep them down to keep the game flowing?

if you mean CPU rating that is shown in lobby, I have 315 and its more than enough to run 10km maps even with 12ppl (bad for setons and other 20km maps)

Ok thank you - I just took a sandbox on Seton's Clutch and it slowed down when I fooled around with 50 or so land units... I will gladly go back to SC from SC2 but it's a pain when the game slows down...

Well like speed2 said, in "normal" games you should be mostly fine, but you probably should avoid survivals or Seton games. There is no real way to improve the performance other than to OC the CPU or to play with less people/lower unit cap/shorter games/smaller maps/no AI.

50 ? NO way.
Something else is wrong.

Setting Priority of the process to high, and setting the affinity (witch cores to use) to not use the first core (0) does give some performance boost. Affinity only if you have quad core or above.

You need to change those settings manually each time you start up the lobby by default. But I think there is some tools you can use to make it auto if you find it works.

Thanks a lot guys! Part of the problem may be that my four cores are only 2,7 GHz. Will try out your suggestions.

Also, if you have settings on maximum like you said, that will have quite an effect.

Although if only 50 land units are slowing you down then you have another issue.
