Lan compatibility FAF and Steam SCFA

Hi all!

I have a lan party in a few weeks where we will be playing the steam version of SCFA. I just did a reïnstall of SCFA in steam.

If I upgrade my installation with FAF, will I be able to play with them without a problem?

Are the bugfixes of FAF needed for casual lan play?

FAF does not change the original files, if you start the game via steam, you will have the steam-version, a known problem (i do not know if it still persists) is that if you have a color selected that is not avalible on steam, the gamelobby will stay grey, this is fixed by changing the color in FAF to a default color or deleting game.perf file (which may delete other customizations as well so be carefull with this).

"Are the bugfixes needed" is something you have to decide yourself.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but: You won't be able to play with your friends unless they also get the FAF updates -- you all need to run the exact same version of the game (Sim mods inclusive) for it to work.

He means if one of you has steam and one of you has retail (aka not the same version OUTSIDE OF FAF), then it will not work without FAF.

After joining FAF u should have a FAF Link Icon as well as the "old" forged allinace icon. When u use the "old" icon it should work with your friends. Just make sure that you all will use the same version which was in the latest dvd version 3599 i think. Steam 3633 possibly.

THe most easy way is that all of you join FAF, cause downloading that great wonder is really the smallest problem. After that create the offline lan LINK of FAF.

Instruction for that was on a wiki page that i don´t find anymore.

latest dvd version 3599 i think. Steam 3603 possibly.

theoretically yes, but steam version is listed as 1.0 and it will not work with a DVD version patched to 3603, if one has DVD and one has steam you have to play over FAF

The person with the cd copy can enter their key into steam to get a copy of both the original supcom and forged alliance. This works with original supcom keys as well.

I was told it will no longer work with the keys from the CDs you can still buy in Germany (they are sold by some kind of 3rd-Party-reseller) but you can try that yourself ofc
