just yesterday i thought about how nice this would be to have such a thing.
but i dropped the idea because i thought it would be hard to implement.
hmm, but you are talking about awards, i was thinking about achievements, sorry.

i thought achievements like "kill the commander only with T1 units".
or "do a PD creep into the enemies base"
or "do a ACU teleport snipe".
i think you get what i mean.
but it would be hard to program that.

the good thing of those awards would not be that someone can show them off, but that many people would do crazy things to get this achievement :-)

what would be the good about awards? showing off the medals? :-)
me myself thinks a won game is a good award :-)
a win loss ratio would be nice, its gone, right?!

Well one category that could be done: "fastest spider|gc|bug|t3 bomber... exp or other unit in laddergames". It should be possible to extract this info from replay data.

GPG also had very 'factual' awars, such as X number of Y units built. But only for ladder games, which I think is a good idea.

i remember i loved the gpg awards, but there are two major problems with it, which is the reason why Zep did not work on it:

1) ingame rewards are based on the data that the players send back to the server when they leave the FA game
-> the data is sent by a UI function, which can be easily altered by a simple UI mod, to send any data back that you want

2) the data, even unaltered by the player, is not perfectly reliable in itself. Zep made a thread in the gpg forums (i don't have the link) in which he stated that the units built/killed amount amount is not true in some cases, but i don't remember the exact statement

ofc you could try to compare the data of several players, but they could still fake awards together. unless there is a way to send reliable data in a way that's not modifiable, it does not make much sense to do it at all

I can't imagine anyone going through the trouble just for a shiny virtual badge but either way you can do it through live in game stats or replay file nowadays.

i don't know how to text edit a replay file to do my bidding just that you can extract information from it.

also if you encrypt the connection to the server during this procedure I see no way of tampering with it.

that is the main problem. you don't have to decrypt the file, encryption won't help at all, because the sender itself is open for any manipulation
