Chrono Dampener

Postby wobbles » 13 Jan 2015, 13:08

I've been having some fun with it the last while in 1v1, though rarely can I win with it.

I just like the "Why arent my tanks moving?" "WTF" comments in chat :)

I feel you end up getting it too late, as its so expenive. It's only worthwhile against t1 and mild t2 spam, but costs 3x what the gun upgrades cost in mass, and I think 5x energy. And even then, it's only actually useful if you have the range upgrade too, so becomes a very late commander push with it.

What techniques do you guys use to make it effective? Or is there anyone even using it regularly?

It is too risky to use at the T2 stage, late alone later on. It isn't a viable option in competitive games unfortunately. It is hard to really balance it, it's either imba or useless.

Get it when you have a good army to back your ACU up then push forward with it.

In team games have your cybran team mate give you some medusa's. :)

It is very risky upgrade, you can use it for trolling, but for normal game risk what you must take is simply too big for effective use. It cost more as shield, and shield is all time better choice.

You need range for OC as boss. whiteout range you are only 11/13K hp easy target. What i was trying to do, is make plenty of mobile shield in back, and swith them when first get destroed. It give you some time, but it is very hard for unit managmend and small mistake mean GAME OVER.

As a total best use of chronodumper i found a missclick on shield upgrade. That is much more effective on every side.

I have been beaten by Chronodampener once, it was when I was losing alread by turtling on a 5x5 and living off reclaim from the fight right outside my base. He got the upgrade, my army melted, gg. He could have done it other ways like just eco and tech and snipe-proofing I guess, but that was probably quicker and safer, couldn't say for sure without finding the replay. It was probably mentally easier to keep being aggressive by getting an ACU upgrade rather than teching on a 5x5 in any case.

Hi i love chrono dampener rush on crimsons feud in a 2v2
it is quite effective on a small map like that.
I recommend building a mobile shield or two. get atleast 2 to 4 flak with your. make sure you get air control.
when you have chrono you usualy have a t2 pg. once you have air. it is very hard to deal with the chrono except for t2 pd.
but you have seen him build this because you scouted! get mml to deal with the pd. and move your acu to more unit based fights. if you do this right you will gain map control with plenty of pressure.
get your eco up, you have map control! more mexes. THAN win the game :)

This very nooby guide is if you realy want to use to chrono.
shield with range and oc is always better. and safer from air.

Is it not useful for helping your commander escape?

I agree shields tend to be better than chrono dampener, especially in the long term, but chrono dampener does have its uses; its just unfortunate that it costs similar in price to the more generally useful shield upgrade while taking the same slot... This said, my only major complaint about it is that it affects all allies units as well as the enemy... which really messes up a lot of its usefulness in team games unless your allies constantly give you their units whenever you want to attack together or if you are being hit by gunships/bombers and need someone's interceptors to kill them, or any number of other things. Its a great compliment to t1/t2 armies otherwise, perhaps not the greatest choice in the world for 1v1s but I could definitely see it getting more team game use if it didn't negate your allies.
