Auto-Adjust Netlag/ UI Lagfix

Postby tatsu » 12 Jan 2015, 09:19

Are those two mods as completely worthless as I think they are?

I seem to recall FAF has something of it's own in that regard which conflicts with both of them, rendering them useless.

Anyways, through statistics I've had more crashes and disconections when these mods were activated then when they where not. I've got the feeling these mods are profusely bad. Can anyone confirm?

if Yes, shouldn't they be removed from the mod vault?

From what I heard, Auto-Adjust Netlag is meant for when both players are on the same LAN, to reduce the synchronization time from the standard every 500 ms to less. Over internet it would not reduce any lag.

Auto Adjust netlag is designed for 1v1 to reduce the command delay below 500ms. This is useful if you are playing someone close by geographically. It is not designed for larger games and the code constantly changing the delay can apparently slow the game down and cause desyncs.

No idea on the UI Lagfix one, in my opinion its easiest to just avoid both.

exactly!

so it's really annoying that the default be to have them activated everytime you host a game if ever you had the bad luck of double clicking on a host that contains them (which is all the time since it spreads exponentially that way).

it's profusely annoying.

everyone's too lazy to turn them off

so can we just all agree that mods activated by default when you host was one of Zep's shittier ideas?

It's not like this is a feature -- it's more of a consequence of how mods are set to be active for the game. To disable the mods after the fact requires more logic in the lobby than not.

I've added an issue for this on github here.

Sheeo we drastically need to do something about this, I'm about to loose my shit. And I know it does no good to get angry nor is it your fault ....but god am I angry!

this stupid thing needs to go away it's driving me up the wall, I never check what mods are activated I just use the keyboard to host. I do it really fast. I only ever stumble upon the fact that they are activated if I just so happen to alt tab to FAF and then I see my game in the list with a little bit of red under the title.

Tatsu, it seems as though you're over-reacting. Losing your shit? Just take 5 seconds to unclick them. I don't know how many games you host, but if you're consistently "losing your shit" every time you host a game, then it might be in your best interest to spend 5 seconds unselecting them. Do you have some kind of competition going with your friends to see who can host the fastest??

Having said all that, I agree that it would be nice if they weren't auto-selected. No urgency implied, nor is it needed. ;)

As part of refactoring how mods are loaded in games, we will also be looking at this.

Until then I suggest to take a chill pill and remember to check your active mods when hosting :) There's a somewhat noticeable red text about it just above the lobby options, which you should also verify before launch (God have I hosted many times that turned out as sandbox games).
