Should Seraphim have been left out of the playable factions?

Think about it, Seraphim are an alien race, they shouldn't be a playable faction at all. Gameplay wise, there is nothing unique about them, they are simply a mish mash of the other three faction's qualities. They have the tankiness of the UEF (think t1 tank, Illshavoh), the shields and fragile units of the Aeon (such as the sniper bots for fragile units) and the stealth of the Cybran (eg, the OP combat scout).

Their com is, again, a mixture. It is the second strongest com, it has nanoregen which was originally a UEF thing, double RAS which is an Aeon thing and the tactical missile pack which again is a UEF thing and I can't think of a Cybran thing but that is enough to justify my point.

And Seraphim really annoys me for that reason. I would have preferred that it was left out as a playable faction rather than the unimaginative copy n paste job they did with making it from a mixture of other faction's abilities.

Don't be so harsh.

I agree that Seraphim could be a lot more interesting design wise, it feels almost as if GPG didn't really even try. Though I like the game more with Seraphim than without :)

Well no one will remove seraphim and if you feel like redesigning them, good luck :D

I agree that game is better with serafins as whiteout. And doesnt mean that i personaly dont like them, and play maybe 5%of my games as serafins.


And this argument i see as very usefull :

IMO the Seraphim need units and abilities that are unique to the game, rather than just re-packaging the abilities of the other factions.

Because the game is complicated enough as-is and the nomads look totally alien to the game.

Seraphim doesn't really have much less uniqueness than other factions because none of the factions are very unique. The basic mechanics of every faction is the same. It's like age of empires, with one "master faction design" and the actual factions are minor variations on that. Just look at the unitDB at http://content.faforever.com/faf/unitsDB/, and you see just how similar the factions are when you line the units up in a list. Compare it with a game like Starcraft where each faction is totally different.

Unique seraphim abilities:

- Hover arty
- Selen
- Submersible destroyer
- AOE cruiser
- Nuke battleship
- Scout that scouts even after death
- T3 submarine
- T3 shield
- Unique exps, like the other factions
- Some unique ACU/SCU upgrades
