Walking on resources //Ice-Idea

One question:
In FAF, there are reclaimable resources like trees, stones, wrecks etc. and there is ICE.
Is it technically possible to walk on ice that´s reclaimable with unit(s)???

If so, imagine a map like setons or other ones with reclaimable Ice instead of water. There would be a lot new tactical options.
But i should not dream so much about things i think...

Just kiddin, but on setons, there's already a LOT of reclaim. More would be too much ;)

you failed to get his point.
he wants a setons with a frozen lake so at the start of the game land units can go anywhere - as the ice from the lake gets reclaimed it would turn into a naval battle the amount of reclaim could of course be adjusted or even be zero (after all no one is reclaiming water :)).

i dont know if thats possible though you would probably have to use some kind of hacky solution to do it.

Not possible with the current game engine. At best you can do is raise or lower the terrain. Lowering the terrain too much causes the engine to replace it with water.

And yes I have done this via script.

Ok, impress me... I've yet to see anything in he game functions that would come close to what he's after.

Well I'm thinking the first and obvious stop would be to not to do it through the heightmap but create a "unit"/units that are essentially ice shaped?

It's 2am here so I might not be explaining this very wel or thinking clearly

general winter for the win! all russins +100 rating.

Terrain and terrain changes are cool. But how exactly it affects gameplay ? No t1 navy rush? Or no torp bombers? Or by reclaiming you make just a narrow pass to enemy side?

Depends on the limitations of the implementation. There's another thing that I remember DeadMG did a while back. Only through about ten pages of forums thus far though.

Problem I see with that is that here is a limit to the what be done with UNITS so it would be better to use dummy entities/ props. Also, how would another unit "walk" on said ice?

IMO It could be possible to prescript terrain changes into the map / scenario rather then let this be run via the SIM.
