Lack of sleep, balance and ladder map stats

So I can't sleep tonight and to remedy the situation I made a spreadsheet of the ladder map stats :

Don't look at the number of chokes column, it is a failed attempt to summarize a complex idea (the "openness" of the map) with a simple number.


A few weird things appeared :

UEF win ratio is overall very low, especially when compared to Seraphim. It is weird because the two factions are usually considered "pretty close". It is true on both water and land maps. I wonder if it is T2 land related, the chicken bot being "denser" in terms of HP and DPS compared to the rhino. Anyway, I'm not certain of the exact problem here but for fun lets list the maps where UEF is the usual winner.

Arctic refuge - 10x10 land based - average reclaim - very open ;
Esgaroth's ruins - 5x5 - low to average reclaim - nor very open nor closed ;
Haven reef, seriously haven reef !!! ;
Standing stones - 10x10 - low to average reclaim - lots of pathways and backdoor access ;
Theta passage V5 - 5x5 - low reclaim - pretty open ;
Volcano duel - 10x10 - no reclaim - lots of space but fighting is only made in one place.
Cluster Freak - I'm not talking about this map.

I fail to see a common thread.

Overall for each map, the win ratio behaves oddly. I guess there are too many factors I didn't take into account.
I was gonna list the maps with weird behavior but it is basically 1/4 of them so I guess I won't.

Now, I'm not a stat expert, so a polite person can only call my analysis "crude". If you can please go further.

To be honest, I don't think we have enough players or games at the moment to have a statistically signifiant sample.

I have no idea what the expected deviation for those stats are, but a lot of them look like the map is not played enough.


Also ratings will make a huge difference here, and on this sheet they are all lumped into one

I'm just posting here to say that the fact you took the time to do this is excellent and I applaud you for it.

Now we need people to look over these things and come up with theories

All I know regarding those results is that Forbidden pass is not as Aeon biased as people think it is.. it's more sera biased than Aeon biased but even then it's not too bad.

EDIT: this also emphasizes the point that Cybran is not OP and that Sera is stronger than it should be (I have been saying this for a while and nobody has listened)
Although I have a feeling that the maps where Sera has a greater win ratio than Aeon is down to Zthuees being just as hard to deal with as aurora on floaty floaty maps.

i think the fact that aeon has 36.33% win ratio on Four corners can only lead to one conclusion:

aeon needs a buff so its not so weak on small watermaps

Why does the chart say aeon has 36% winrate, I just went to the ladder map stats and it says they have a 59% winrate. OPs data might be off.

I would like to have a look at the raw data, too if you can provide it in another table?

Can you provide how many games are played by each faction in total?
Do you have the rating of the players at the time the games were played?

Sorry Hascins, I won't be able to add data related to the ranking of the player. I just typed the stats available in the lobby, in the leaderboard tab and there is no information related to the player ranking.

Swkoll, can you copy the data in a new sheet? I never used google docs before so I'm not really sure why you are not able to edit the document. just in case, this link might work : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
