Is there any point?

Postby Flynn » 26 Oct 2014, 20:52

I love SupCom but it gets so frustrating sometimes. I have lost games all weekend and it leaves me feeling a very special unique kind of rage after I lose more than a few games in a row or lose more than half the games I play :x I have 1600 games and it just seems so pointless as I never improve. I know I will be back but I have considered uninstalling FAF, it's like a sickness. I just don't improve despite all the practice I put in.

A very integral part of improvement is the formation of habits. You should look at deconstructing the bad ones and creating new good ones. Simply begin by looking at patterns from your gameplay, pick one bad pattern you notice and make a conscious effort to improving it. After about 20-30 occurrences you won't need to think about it anymore and can move onto the next subject of improvement.

Not to offend you or anything, but I played you on Loki when my game crashed. Afterwards we have a conversation about the game (I was quite ahead at time of crash). After I made a remark that you should your acu more you said something like: "You don't have to give me advice, I know most of it, but forget it when in-game". It seems to me that after that many games you kind of lost the interest to evaluate your games because you know a lot, but can't do it in-game (which sounds like giving up to me).

What I think is the best course of action? Go over a replay, determine at least one major thing you did wrong and then try to fix that one thing in a new game. For example, focus on using your acu to secure expansions (because that's a good thing in almost all small-map games). When that goes better, pick out another thing. Other than that, I think Blodir has it spot on.

This post is not to offend you, but I'm trying to offer some genuine advice (even though I'm probably equally bad or worse than you atm).

well, you should play like me, I dont care if I lose (sometime I only care if I will play good, but mostly bad :), I doubt I ever have 1000+ rating ), if you care you will be angry and play even worse (if Iam flustrated or angry I play always bad )

I think best would be join a clan, but problem is most of clans doenst has requirement for joining written, or we know nothing about their activity and another problem could be with language

most fun is playing in clan (I know that from another game) and playing with random players is quite boring, you dont know each other...and find a game with not stupid map, fitting rating and with enough players is all so not easy ( and that connection...so flustrating, every game problem-not helping)

I know the feeling. Just stop playing for a week. If it's still feeling shit, wait another week. But still check Aeolus and the forum etc, you are not punishing yourself, just taking a brake.

Playing Diablo 3 helps me to get over the faf blues.

Thanks for the advice guys, very helpful. One thing I am forgetting right now is to eco. The reason for this is because after watching all of ZLO's back catalogue of casts, I decided to try his play style where he reclaims as much as he can and puts all of his mass into units rather than ecoing. I did have some success with it when I first tried it at the end of last year but I think the intricacies of it are somewhat beyond my skill level and that leads to me being overrun in a game so I need to get back into the habit of ecoing because at the moment I just forget too often.

Edit: Just to add, often when I have a SupCom marathon weekend, starting on Friday night and ending on Sunday night, I lose all sense of reality after playing a few games, everything depends on my SupCom performance for me to feel happy. It is crazy that if I lose enough games on a given day, even if they are to all different people I just get into a mental state where I have this feeling of rage after each loss which is very intense, although it cools off after about five minutes. This is a different feeling to if I was to lose even half of my games on a given day where I would think "Okay, fair enough I lost that one", it is the constant failures that make me think of quitting. During those few minutes of rage I do occasionally consider uninstalling FAF but I know I would just have to reinstall it again.

The real solution to the rage problem would maybe to take 30 minute breaks between all games but I could not stick to that

back in time i was against concept of "playing for fun" i was thinking that it would be best to both players play for win and then game it self will be intence and interesting from start to end...
but then it kinda went boring for me, also i can't always outplay someone like Petricpwnz BH Zock Voodoo ect ect
so i tryed to change my playstyle too, and it helps to still enjoy game, you can also switch faction, you can try to use troll tactics, or try to be super inventive (abuse walls in weird way for example, modify ghetto gunship BO for sera and drop 5 artys and 3 tanks super fast on map where usually acu leaves base and similar stuff)

you can also get a friend and hard abuse team strategies, that can also be very fun (for your team)
