What do you think of that new reclaim ground command ?

Hello everyone,

Today I've seen in aeolus that a new reclaim ground command may come in the next patch (dunno if it's really going to be done, or if it's ready or not...), I don't have really lots of info about it but whatever, if it's really the case, then there should be a topic about it.
And I don't know if it has a priority in it (I mean reclaim the biggest reclaims first and then the low amount of reclaim at range), and if it's really effective or not (I mean does it really take all the reclaims at range? or does it miss some reclaim?)

To be honest, I don't really know what to think about it.
I don't like spending apms in the middle of the game to manual reclaim (at the early it's fine since you don't have so many things to do, it keeps you busy). This new reclaim grorund command sounds like a super manual reclaim (maybe even sounds broken/op), okay you can patrol/alt click to reclaim but manual reclaim is way faster than the usual one. (the only thing that can't be beaten for reclaiming is the huge range of reclaiming when you do alt click from the factory)

So, what do you think about it?

I like it !

It doesn't break balance and reduces the clicking.

Low APM players (like me) will have time to do some highly efficient manual reclaim and high APM players (not me) will have time to micro other suff.

Hope it will be implemented soon.

FA always leaves players the choice where they spend their apm.
they can micro a tank, use engy build range to the maximum to build something a little earlier, try to dodge a bomber, or reclaim manually. mainly i see three different things: combat micro (dodge shots, doubledrop with bombers etc), building micro (use buildrange, try to maximise efficiency by adjacency etc), and eco micro (upgrade mexies with assistance, manual reclaim etc)

each player focuses these aspects with different priority, none of them is uber important so that the others are neglectable, and each of these can give you benefits if you spend your apm on it.

my point here:
introducing this feature takes away a good part of the eco micro.

for some players, it's just stupid clicking, queueing reclaim orders to be efficient, so to simplify it they want a tool that does it automatically. attackmove can already do that, or patrol.
i prefer spending my apm equally (or biased towards base/eco), and not only on unit micro. just because i prefer it this way.
this feature would take away something that i can take advatage on, and supports players to favor mostly unit micro.


and after removing micro (reward) from this game, there are some questions:
- why simplify eco micro? FA is arguably alot about eco (flux eco, sending ressources, ...)
- why not simplify something else? why not automatic dodging for tanks, for those who don't like combat micro?
- what other micro simplifications are coming when we started implementing them?

I think it is a great feature and that is the kind of things that should be there since day 1. Better have this and remove the broken op attack move from the factory than the other way around it makes much more sense.

It has nothing to do with auto-dodging from tanks or this kind of stuff for me, it is just something everyone is dreaming of since 2007. If you think this is OP then shift+G is op too, and building patterns are OP too and being able to select an infinite number of units at once is OP too, and being able to set custom keyboard shortcuts (select idle engies on screen, select nearest idle engy...) are OP too, etc.

At the moment it queue-ups reclaim orders of everything in range (checks the build-range of the engie), with priority for value. This can of course be changed or limits imposed, like no priority at all or maximum of X reclaims in queue.

The goal was to give reclaim the same feature as units have with attack / assist ground which makes the command active in an area. Optimal would be some kind of patrol-like behavior (instead of queing up) but where it only reclaims. At the moment you cannot trust patrolling engineers because they could decide to go repairing or assisting something instead. And the optimal way at the moment is to use the bugged attack-move directly from factory, which is very hard to know for new players and give them a huge disadvantage.

it looks cool ofc!

also, I see you can't specify range of area to reclaim, and it also puts move order 1rst, but does it use reclaim range as an area?

also i would not worry about reclaim being OP with that mod, we could just implement it cause it is cool mechanics (not actually sure how cool is that, but it will solve issue with underwater reclaim and you can put some orders after that order and can't after patrol/attack move),
and then nerf reclaim speed of wrecks and rocks if needed :)

Yea! How about we remove queuing orders too, so we get more nice micro. And while we are at it we should also get rid of the selection box! That will make for some real juicy micro! And screw all those build templates. They take away our beloved micro! Also, those patrol commands? f*** those! I'd rather place a new way point every few seconds!


... Maybe you should play SC2 or some other retarded game that deliberately limits your control as a game design choice.

Hello,

I am not sure what to think of the feature. Personally I don't think this is a big issue and it would be nice if we focused on others things like balance or lobby enhancements instead of something like this. This change may have a use someday but do we really want to change the Gameplay for something like this when we already have large tournaments on the go ?

I should add as well that this change might actually increase the amount of micro in the game as now you can micro all your units all the time instead of doing manual reclaim. Factory attack move already simplifies reclaim so why not use that ? GPG mentioned a long time ago that the factory attack move was a known feature.

I do agree however that we need a clear picture of how things will be implemented in the future so that we know what the patch cycle will be like and how we will test it.
