FA in 4K?

Postby JeanLu » 25 Jul 2014, 15:43

Hi,

I wonder if FA would work in UHD screen (3840x2160). I guess yes but I have have no iea about the CPU/GPU required then.
Would an i5 3570k and GeForce GTX660 be enough?

Any shared experience welcome.

You will probably need to update your graphics card.

I had a 650ti boost on a high overclock with the upgraded 2 gigs of ram, and it was not enough to run FA and cast at the same time once there were more than about 2000 units on the map. I sincerely doubt that a 660 standard would be able to push that kind of resolution and keep the framerate up in the late game.

Thanks for the feedback. Any clue about a minimal GPU required?

4K is well ahead of the curve, and will blow up a 660 instantly. You want to run any game at all at 4K at 60FPS you're going to need triple-SLI GTX 780Ti or tri-crossfired R9 290Xs. The hardware we have just can't really push 4K at the right frames. Even to push 30FPS in modern games needs top hardware, though you can just about scrape through with a single card for that.

Source: A few reviews and personal experience (Battlefield 3 at 4K from crossfired R9 280X = 20 FPS)

Hi,
I'm probably wrong but...
AFAIK, fa is not so demanding regarding GPU, and my 660 seems pretty underused for fa at 2K. As to me, 4K requires just 4 more resources than 2K, to my understanding it has some good chances to work.
The games you mentioned are to me much more demanding on GPU side, but i don't really know.
Thanks, Jean

And keep in mind that a higher res. also taxes the CPU more (not as much as the GPU, but still).

4K requires at least 4 GB of Vram. Also, with a lot of action on the screen, my 660 Ti struggles at 1920x1200. Your card WILL NOT WORK at 4K. 780/290 Would be the minimum for FA at 4K.

For a game like FA you will most definitely not need 4gb of ram to run at 4K resolution.

I'm running it at 2560x1440 using just 851mb of vram, using a GTX 670, which is only very slightly better than a 660 Ti. It has 2gb of vram, and it doesn't struggle (30fps during large asf fights, 60fps other times), so there's something else bottlenecking your setup.

Assuming vram requirements scale linearly with pixels it'd require 1914mb of vram at the worst. This is probably not the case, though.

I meant that my 660Ti is below 60 for most of the time, dipping below 30 with lots of units on the screen. While FA may not require 4 GB, other games definitely do at 4K. Not to mention anything with less raw power than 780 gets absolutely demolished fps wise at that resolution.
