What are armor and weapon types?

Postby Zsombi » 19 Apr 2014, 13:10

Hello.

Before I saw the unit database I always thought that for each and every entity the full damage values are directly substracted from the health values. But then in the DB I see types for both armor and weapons.

For example (armor): Structure, Light, Normal, Experimental, Commander;
and (weapons): Directfire, Overcharge, Normal, Direct Fire Experimental, Anti Navy, etc...

Do those in any way affect how much damage value will be taken off of a health value? If they do not affect anything like that then what are they for?

They indeed do. Examples are overcharge doing less damage vs commanders and buildings, firebeetles being immune to their own weapon, etc...

asf have a special armor to the CZAR beam
depth charge aren't stop by anti-torpedo systeme
but a mantis/monkey lord/pillar........... will do full damage when their shot will hit.
there isn't common armor like in starcrap 2 (light/heavy armor); i think there isn't any difference between an experimental or an light armor (a part from the exception said before : OC, ACU nuclear blast.............)

That would be an easy way to code how the 'massive' trait works sine the tooltip is something about crushing smaller units.

they don't prevent damage in the traditional sense. Think of them as "checks" to do before an event statement is preformed. Fire Beetles are a good example, their armor type was created and used exclusively by FAF to prevent damaging other Fire Beetles
