Question on AI ability to see cloaked and stealth units

Postby Violins77 » 11 Apr 2014, 18:07

Hi there, I recently installed FA Forever and I absolutely love it. I play skirmish for now (I know, I know, but I'm not confident enough for now) and I would like to know if the AI is restricted by the same rules as the human players (eg. do they see cloaked and stealthed units or if my unit is cloaked they won't see it?)

I did search on the internet for it but couldn't find a specific answer so I thought I'd ask the die hard fans! :)

If you play with AIx (cheating AI), it sees the whole map.

The AI won't see your units unless they're scouted, at which point you'll get harassed by bombers or drops, or both. Then again, Adaptive Sorian loves to just turtle and then start launching experimentals and nukes late game. Long story short, if you use stealthed units, they generally won't get spotted, but Sorian is real good about using scouts, so it likely won't play as large of an impact as you think.

I think you can disable this feature of the AIX via the Omni setting.
Your rescue squad is too exhausted.

Thank you! That's the answer I was looking for. I'm ok if they need scouts to see my units. I just wanted to make sure the stealth unit are not completely useless...

I've played matches with non cheating AI that have no Omni, or at least none in range of my acu that's teleported to a random corner of a 81kmx81km map, when the AI goes to nuke - The nuke heads for your ACU, regardless of stealth, intel, or scouting - This was a long while ago, but I've never heard/seen anything that would suggest this has been changed, or is any different now - Stealth from my experience does Sweet Nothing against AI.

^It's not an 'all or nothing' thing with AI. It's possible they interact perfectly with stealth, but just mess up with nukes. Remember the computer always knows where all your units are. I can totally see someone making the nuke AI code and forgetting that the AI needs to make sure they have intel on the ACU.

How often is an ACU stealthed and hanging outside of the core base late game and you don't know where he/she is? Rarely? Say hello to an obscure bug!

Could be wrong of course but wanted to point out the people saying it works and you can both be right.

Late game my ACU is constantly moving, usually alone with nothing but a t2 tansport and a deceiver, or sometimes just superstealth(cloak) and walking in random places always changing direction. Whenever someone spots my acu, it moves - It moves FAR AWAY. You want to snipe a ACU, you usually find it in its base - You want to snipe a Cybran ACU, shields wont save you - Being sneaky will; but not against AI.

Something to also know is that a Soraian AIx with Axi omni enabled ist not able to attack or counter a full cloak/stealth cybrian Acu. Only when you get in range of the Aix Acu's build in omni the Aix will attack your acu. So you can easylie destroy a whole base with a full stealth + laser cybrian ACU.

With disabled Aix omni the Aix hase more or less the same vision like you and needs to scout eveything but not a Monkeylord. If its one time scouted the Aix willknow the position all the time until its destroyed.
