Yes, FAF works with the Steam version of FA.

FAF does not touch the Steam version, it installs seperately, so you can still play both versions.

You can always ask around in Aeolus. I'm not good at FA by any stretch of the imagination, but I still appreciate the absolute depth this game has. It's the best RTS on the market, hands down. Just a shame that Supreme Commander 2 was so dumbed down. I was really looking forward to it, and it was just an utter disappointment compared to FA. I have hundreds of hours played in FA, but only 21 in SC2. You can tell from that alone.

Side note: If you want the steam overlay ingame you have to add the FAF exe as 3rd party program to steam

To add Forged Alliance Forever, hit the Add a Game button in the lower left of the Steam interface, then Add a Non-Steam Game. Simply select the FAF client from the list. FAF will now appear in your list of Steam games, and launching the game through Steam will allow you to hit shift-tab to open the Steam overlay as normal.

Beccause I am trying to add that to Steam client I guess, pretty annoying how ignorant I am in the matter

I think you have a couple different things confused. Here are some broken-down steps for installing and a couple optional Steam-related things, like adding the FAF Client to Steam in order to get the Steam in-game overlay.

Step one: have Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance installed somewhere on your computer. A Steam install works great.

Step two: download the Forged Alliance Forever client, either with the big shiny button on the main page or from the Downloads page.

Step three: install the FAF client. This will involve telling the installer where your Forged Alliance game files are stored. You installed them through Steam, so they should be detected automatically.

Step four: Start up the FAF client and make a profile. Once set up, you are all set to play. :)

OPTIONAL STEPS

To add FAF to your Steam list of games and get access to the Steam in-game overlay: open Steam, hit 'add a game' in bottom left of the client, then 'add a non-steam game'. Select the FAF Client from the list and hit accept. FAF will now show up on your list of Steam games, and if you start FAF through Steam via that list, you can shift-tab while in-game to open the Steam overlay.

To use multiple FAF accounts on the same computer: I only mention this because it is what is commonly called "linking to Steam" around the forums, and I want to be clear what the difference between this and the above Steam thing is. Normally you can only have one FAF account per computer. However, you can link your FAF account to your Steam account if you own Forged Alliance on Steam, and this allows your to share a computer with other FAF accounts that are also linked to Steam. Handy for siblings, etc. You do this through one of the options in the top left of the FAF client.
