New pro players?

Like seriously, when was the last time we saw new pro players? I used to think all the smurfs were new pros until I found out about the rampant smurfing culture between pros in the community. Does anyone remember the last new pros arrived? I know some under 2000 level pros but I am referring to the very top. If they do join from time to time, where do they come from? I am guessing Command and Conquer, StarCraft 2, among other games?

Technically supcom has no Pro players, considering that no one actually has played supcom for a job for years. Blackheart is relatively new as well as petric, but as we all know it is very difficult to get to top tier supcom play and the effort you put into getting to the top might be better spent in a game like DOTA2, LoL, or Starcraft where you might make money, that combined with a relatively small userbase, people don't get to the top very often.

There are no new pro players because FA is well WELL past release. It's increasing in popularity, but only slightly. If a lot of new players start showing up, some of them will be good and we'll have new pros.

Makes you wonder... how long until we can make an 'official' tournament so we can drive some talent into the game.

Not saying what we are doing is 'bad' or anything, but at some point, it would be nice to have a pro-scene to Supcom and all the benefits it brings -namely more people. Some of which can fix problems we can't currently (or balance or w/e.)

We could find a company to sponsor a tourny... but that's unlikely seeing as is risky. (Both in the 'this isn't popular enough to be considered advertising' and the legal implications with using the gas powered IP.)

It's still possible... some crowd funding could raise the money (or a million other ways) but the larger problem I see is the IP issue. I'm sure while 'we' aren't generating money, gas powered games doesn't really care what we do. But if we start making revenue in the form of having tournaments and whatnot, they will want a cut. And at that point, the line is crazy hard to draw. Both sides have a really strong claim to all of the profit. Without us, there is no community (or patches or lobby...). Without them, no game.

...Fun thoughts though.
