FAF Website

Postby Dragonfire » 19 Feb 2014, 09:28

The faf website contains all important materials and works,
but there are space for improvments ...
I am able to code it, or slice a template ...

Any designer here, that can create a psd template?
My photoshop skills are limited ...

@Zep:
If we rework the page ...
Custom php, Custom CMS, joomla, typo or still wordpress?

The problem is not the design, the problem is having time filling the infos.

- the GW page is empty because it's not done yet.
- The search function is working here.
- All the "gray on gray" infos are not that important, so it's okay if they are not much readable compare to the main central area. (doesn't attract attention)
- I've removed the broken pages.
- Yes, the livestream tab is used.

About a new design : Why not, but more importantly is an unified look.

Unified between the website, the unit DB, the clan management, the wiki, the map vault, .....
It's useless to make a new design if it's not done that way (just making it different for the sake of it it's not something I want).

And that would requires A LOT of work.

If you are ready to put that much work into the website, I won't get in the way (that actually would be great), but I would need to approve the design first :)
To be honest, I would prefer spending time on improving things that already exists instead of redoing thing that already work.

Write anything about GW is a waste of time currently, as everything can change at any time.

The error you see is not a search error but a plugin missing in the server. I will fix that.

A webmaster would be nice, I've asked for help writing things for FAF several time, only got one contribution so far : The "what is forged alliance" text from UberGeek you currently see.

Instead of try to improve the faf lobby (notification system/map vault) I can improve all web content ...
Hard decision ...

Btw. Have you any design preferences?
Clan app, faf lobby none theme, gpg net site, some other site?

As FAF is displaying many HTML pages, I would say that it need to be in the color scheme than the default skin.

Eventually, it should be possible to override the skin of the website from the lobby (you can inject a new CSS), so the CSS need to be user-friendly and clear.

While your proposal is nice, I have to warn you that it's a LOT of work. You will have to redesign and integrate the whole map vault & unit DB for example.

I prefer waiting for the final version, so the infos are correct.
The problem with writing temporary help is that the chances of them being not updated are really high.

Also, it's still a beta, so I don't find if people are not playing it because there is no help.
I want a beta tester being able to find information on his own.
