No time to manage battles in SupCom <_<

Postby Flynn » 11 Feb 2014, 17:37

Is it me or does everyone feel bad when they leave the battle in SupCom to go off and micro other things to do with economy? When my units are fighting I want to be microing them for the most effective outcome, not elsewhere placing mexes or cueing build orders. Just a little rant

if you not confident, or there are alot of t1 arty in enemy army -> retreat before going on micro other things.
also you can actually make move order for your army so tanks change direction, and then go micro eco for 1-2 seconds and then make one more move order and that way you at least dodge arty...
also you should try to make your economy with kinda automatic way, all thouse "lines" of power and factories and inf cueue serve that purpose, cause all your base productions does not need to be managed alot and you just micro and manual reclaim all free time...
you can get advantage from better base managment or from better micro, but in second situation you have to attack constantly xD

there are no clear way, you just have to treat your attansion/time, APM/CPM as limited resources, and try use them efficient...

if some one is bad at micro and macro at the same time on some maps you can send 2 mech marines to two sides of his base and he will feel very very bad even if he will not loose any units, cause he will have to cancel alot of orders for his engyneers (or delay queuing)

actually you can setup move order before all this queuing that you have for expanding engy/ACU, and if you have to retreat with engy or change direction where acu moves (to kill Lab for example) you can just drag that move order around and when enemy unit killed you can drag order to same place again, i have seen this done by Lu_Xun in some old white fire game (he had ton of stuff queued for acu and there were spirit/aurora passing by and he just draged move order and killed them without canceling stuff and then dragged move order back)

Good advice ZLO, I will definitely be trying this in future. Not my topic but thanks for that bit of information.

One other thing to help with micro is to play as zoomed out as possible, honestly, ZOOM OUT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN COMFORTABLY CLICK THINGS.

I cannot stress how much this will help multitasking, especially if you are used to playing team games, ect
BC_Blackheart: i just copy his shit and do it 5% better leads to easy win usually xD

Need help? Are you a new player? Feel free to message me any time in the lobby :) Lessons may cost a portoin of your soul.... (Noms are included but not guaranteed)

Sorry, off topic at the start:
While reading this and the answer from ZLO there is the thing that came up in my mind again:
the patrol command should allow another stance: NOT standing when shooting.
this i will propose as a thing that shall be fixed.
then there would not be such things as using shift to queue orders and click up and down and again and so forth, and then, when clicking to close, a patrol route is clicked.... (when you click right on a move position order, it is changing to a patrol).

now i hope not flynn, tha you also would like to have FA to be changed into a more battle oriented game. on another thread (i dont find it right now) someone is wanting this.. maybe you? i read it yesterday but i already forgot where it was written...

i know what you are talking about, but for me it is even the selfmurderish style. i do eco while my commander ist at the front or standing in the middle and getting sniped... well, kind of overwhelming the game is..

Either get higher APM or you reached your skill barrier...

I have that problem a lot and it feels really bad. Sometimes I am capping my mexes while my t3 mobile arty is chasing some unit and going into PD range or while my air is getting hit on the ground xD But I really cant stand wasting mass

What I do is automate as much shift as possible so even if I left the computer, things are being built and units are heading to the front lines.

Little tips:
Have one lead factory with everyone else assisting it so I don't have to mirco factories. (This discovery alone reduced my in-game APM stress by a ton.)
Anytime you need a reactionary unit, make one of the assisting factories do it. It will build the que of units you give it, then resume assisting the main factory.
Use attack orders as your factory rally point. This way if a stray LAB crosses your spam line, it's hunted down proper.
^And toss in some t1 engies into your standard loop of units. With the attack move, they will auto-reclaim. Really helps when your moving up as they clean up the mass field without thought. (If defending, remember to spend them else where or they basically just run into PD...)
Use patrols with air units when possible. Play it by ear if fuel is needed -but intys in the air are much better than landed intys. An ambush or group of land spam can easily screw you over if you park your guys in a bad spot. Save the worry, patrol all the time and toss in a resupply or two.
Build templates.

one thing that I like in PA, but don't have in FA(unfortunately) is Area Commands, you can Micro your units and "forget" to make a lot of Mexes after 2 minuts
