SupCom cast marathon

Postby Flynn » 07 Feb 2014, 17:13

Right my fellow ACUs, I am on a it of a SupCom pilgrimage right now. I am watching every English cast on ZLO's channel. I am about a third of the way through. Who wants to bet that I will improve afterwards? lol? Edit: Also, does he upload every game he plays? If so, this has gotta stop somewhere. lol.

It's like a fucking Rocky training montage isn't it? Just scenes of me sitting in a darkened room, empty pizza boxes, late at night watching casts. Then in the morning, sitting in my underwear watching casts. I even have an inspirational reason. I swore to beat a bitter enemy the next time I played him and I couldn't but I came frustratingly close. Add to that being humiliated by someone who's level I used to be (around 1500) in another game, I am studying SupCom as though the rest of my life depended on it :P Yes, I am so sad :geek:

I suggest you queue 1v1 all day then, rather than watching other people do it :)

I advise to take one map that you like and ask somebody to train you on that map & play games against better players on it until you can beat them. If you try to take all maps at the same time there is just too much to learn. Which map do you like?

Above all, keep it fun. Supcom shouldn't be like a job ;-) It is no great failure not to be a strong supcom player.

That does not work, at least for me. I have played 1370 games thus far and once I got beaten by a person who had played less than 50. I need to know the pros secrets in order to improve it seems.

what?
a few months ago i stopped being lazy and played many ranked matches for a time. i immediately bumped up a lot in rating and i guess in general 1n1 skill too.
not that i was ambitious enough to continue that :D
how can having played 1000+ ranlked games not make you improve??
do you actually try to get better xD?

Yes I do, but I plateaued about mid last year where my rating peaked at 1535 and then a couple of months after the noobs started getting frighteningly better and my rating plummeted back to the mid 1200s which it is now. Anyway, this thread is about SupCom cast marathons, not my rating (there are enough threads on that  ) so let's try to keep it on topic shall we? :P

Ha, I thought you guys are casting by yourself in marathon mode.
it would be helpful if you hand out some links and also recite what are really the best.

i would like to give some friends who are playing their very first games some advice, but i can not. i always want to let them win with thinking, but something happens and boom, they are dead.
so i hope i can give them some casts that are short but teachful.
i also love the casts from gyle, but i have not the time to watch. also i have not the bandwidth to watch them in HD and in low quality its not the same. when i know what casts are really a lesson, i will download them.

i am going to show them the training sheppard has made so nicely, but they are way off at listening to something or someone.

but to be honest, in the beginning just doing one thing was one hard thing. so, i am not mad at them if they not even answer me while i write them pages long advices! they even do not recognize that i am writing in game!!!

Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I have finally finished the cast watching marathon. Boy am I glad that is over! I watched all of his videos apart from the Russian ones, so out of 361 I probably watched about 355. A lot of his micro tricks I knew already but never bothered to use because I didn't think they would make much difference in a game. But I have watched so many games on ZLOs channel where the game was decided in the first 5 minutes. So to summarise:

Micro is worth it
Searching around the map for reclaim when you are mass stalling or preferably before is worth it
Remembering to do things is worth it so as pausing your power spam when you have enough power or pausing your engineer spam when you have enough engineers. Remember to do stuff is the hardest part
Choosing the most effective unit for the job
The little things do make a difference
Being bothered with micro like drops et al
Commit to strategies, don't be too shy to go all in i.e. a t2 rush or whatever, just make sure you keep your opponent busy with raids to distract him in the mean time

I am pleased to report a slight improvement in my playing as a result of regular cast watching, I hope it doesn't go away now I have finished the casts.

As an aside

if the map isn't completely symmetrical it is a stupid map
if you lose on a map then it is a stupid map
if you don't know the map then it is a stupid map
if a map has some obscure bug that most people don't know about anyway then it is still a stupid map

Also it appears that ZLO has his own personal fan club consisting of Gorton, Nombringer and Aulex :D

I am so glad it is over now, he is a funny kid but I have watched ZLO replays relentlessly since I started this thread. Glad to be able to return to normality now
