Engineer collision behaviour

Postby SC-Account » 25 Jan 2014, 17:03

I always wondered why engineers place themselves around factories so much smoother when you use assist ground till I figured out that their collision is completely different when under assist ground order (or rather - non existent).

What about implementing that not only for assist ground but for all assist orders?

Is the method to do this clicking assist in the bottom left thing and then just clicking the ground near the factory? Does someone know the hotkey in zulan/gaz ui?

My jaw dropped. I'm not sure if this is a bug, a feature, or what, but intended or not this is going to have a profound effect on the way the game is played. Since it appears the collision boxes vanish with this for Engies, we need to check this does NOT work for tanks and other units. We simply can't allow tanks to be going through each other all the time, no matter how convenient it might seem. I get the feeling this could easily become a bit broken.

formation move does similar things with units

Edit: collision only stops for units that have same command (as far as i know) (for sure with engyes, not sure about tanks and others)
so your acu will avoid collision with units when you use formation move or assist ground to acu and thouse units

so you can't really control what you doing and it is not game breacking thing, however replay does shows what happens when units avoid collision...

Thank you all guys, learned alot about FA today

Btw in 1rst replay when i use regular assist order (when factory is in the bottom land mass) i tryed to build walls with acu at the same time, and there clearly was this command delay, caused by pathfinding overload or something, basicly acu can't move for some time cause game processing engy movement

Hm, this only seems to work with the units that got the order, you cannot use this to move through enemy or own tanks or whatever...
