Keeping my transports close

Postby rockoe10 » 24 Jan 2014, 16:47

I have a pretty simple question:

How do i keep my transport near by my other aircrafts (or even my land units for that matter)?

I would like to use my mobile stealth units (Deceiver) in ONE transport and use its stealth field to stealth other aircraft/land units. Is this possible to do easily without carefully watching it's every move? Currently I watch it and stop it when it gets too far, but it is WAY too micro intensive and was wondering if there is an easier way.

Thanks!

Tell one transport to assist/guard another plane/unit?

I tried that, but it roams around a little too far. The stealth field isn't big enough for that... :/

Alternatively; you can try telling the planes around the transport to assist it. I think it works pretty well with a small amount of gunships.

Why not put the planes in formation?

Ill have to try the reversed assist, but as for the formation, it tends to spread most planes too far apart. Some may be ok, but most are again outside the radius.

P.S.
Side question: Does anyone know how the transports work in calculating how many units can be carried and what kinds? That is, how many T1/2/3 and ACu's a transport can carry?

http://supcom.wikia.com/wiki/Transport

It boils down to 'note', 'note', 'exception', 'if'

In general a T1 unit takes one spot, a T2 unit takes two spots, and a T3 unit takes four spots. But if the spots are subdivided in the transport it might be possible that you end up with a lot of 'halves'.

There is one trick:
Fill your transports, then let them patrol and shift the patrol markers so that they are at one spot, the transports will be so close together that they look like one - then move them.

If you want to use formation, HOLD DOWN right click at the desired location till you see a unit grid pop up. Then, while holding right down, left click. Your unit formation should swap from a line to a block (closer formation). This may be enough to get where you are going under stealth.
