Flashing fog of war to reveal civs

Postby Szakalot » 07 Jan 2014, 18:54

Would it be possible to disable fog of war for 1 sec when gating in, for any type of game? Such a 'flash' would visualize the positions of all civilian buildings.

IMO, civilians are as much a part of the map as the landscape itself, and I don't think anyone suggests starting every game with a blacked-out map starcraft style. It can be incredibly frustrating to play a map for the first time and plan a tactic only to realize your forces are walking into civ PD.

why not make all maps black then? - scout to reveal location of mexes, TA style.

'scout it saves lives' applies to that situation just as well.

Scouting should be against your opponent, not to figure out how the MAP LOOKS LIKE.

I completely agree with OP. Map knowledge gives way too much of an advantage with the current setup (as if knowing reclaim locations wasn't enough...)

Agreed as well. This can screw you on a map that you have not played and your opponent has. Civilians are basically part of the map, like rocks, trees, and anything else.

well but civillian buildings should definetly get marked when scouted.
i remember i played a map in galactic war and i was confused why my engineers were always disappearing. the civillian buildings didnt get marked and i killed 2-3 engies sending them over there and thinking i cancelled the order so i sent new ones

Can always just ask in chat. I would say if there civs out of common decency (and major reclaim points). If the other player does not know , then you are even.

marked when scouted seems a little late when you've already wasted time sending units that way, unknowing of a major civ base with PDs and whatnot. Why not just show up ALL the civs from the beginning of the game?

asking in chat seems like a waste of time: first of all the opponent might not reply, secondly the explanation might be difficult to perform. Precise locations of PDs are very relevant as well, as well as the amount of reclaim (which usually can be determined from the type of buildings present).

Is there some particular reason why everyone being able to see all the civ buildings from the beginning of the map is a bad idea? Other than "i've learned this while playing the map already, and I want others to have to learn it before they can enjoy the map as well so that its 'fair' '

I totally agree with this, it would make it much fairer to all players.

On a different but related note,I think civvie units (i.e the civvies have 20+ MERCIES) shouldn't be there!
