Submarine Speed Bug

Postby mofa13 » 04 Jan 2014, 15:56

There is a Speed Bug of the Submarines in the Game. Read this first:

As with all submarines, if you need to improve its speed, simply surface the vessel for increased speed, although this makes it more vulnerable to surface fire.

But if the Sub deep up, there aren´t faster!

In fa subs are balanced funny in that they are faster than surface ships. I think a little realism is cool, but if subs moved faster above water.... we would need to completely rebalance them. I mean.... they have paper armor and die too fast to be effetive above water

Units shouldn't be able to fire and reclaim at the same time o.0 - not unless explicitly told to (e.g the Sparky)

What are you talking about? They die very easily above water, as well as lose their radar immunity (making them even easier to detect and counter) because they're not meant to normally operate above water. The speed boost when surfaced works precisely because they're not effective above water - you can only use it to get into position or escape a counterattack, not for actual combat purposes.

As Gerfand pointed out, it's supposed to be a feature. There's no rebalancing required.

Not really. Modern submarines are designed to operate underwater, and their hydrodynamics mean that the increased turbulence actually makes them slower when surfaced. But as a gameplay feature it makes sense. And since many of these subs have surface weapons like WWII subs, maybe they're designed to be faster when surfaced? :|
