SupCom with new PC

Postby Flynn » 28 Nov 2013, 22:44

Wow, SupCom has a new lease of life on a new computer! I can do things like select all my engineers at once without the game freezing for 2 seconds and I can place structures easily without the lag making me miss click. Add to that playing in high definition on a 22 inch LCD monitor and it feels like a new game, I can't believe such an advanced game is 7 years old! But then I can't believe it was 7 years ago when I was just a 17 year old kid either! Aw, shucks.

Going from 1900x1080 to 1200x800 when my GPU broke was a bit of a shock to me! I perfectly understand your feeling

Heh yeah, just for comparison my old setup was Intel Pentium T4300 (2.1Ghz), 4 GB memory, Radeon HD 4570. New rig is core i5 4670k, 8GB memory and I don't even have a video card yet! With the integrated graphics it can still play in HD resolution and it looks stunning.

Quick question, what is a good CPU benchmark score for an i5 4670k and does the CPU benchmark use the turbo boost or not? I get 223 on the CPU benchmark which doesn't seem close enough to 0 as I expected it would be? I thought that the thread about "simspeed benchmarks" was about this but it seems not to be.

I have the same processor (4670K at default speeds) and get 224 on the CPU benchmark.

Also, here is a link to a sim speed thread with various CPUs benchmarked, including the 4670K (maybe this is the thread you already saw?)

Just as an update, it is amazing how much getting a vid card frees up the CPU. I now get a CPU score of about 150-160 on average now that the video card is taking the strain off the CPU! But yeah, playing on this rig is utter SupCom heaven. 8-)

Well, a GPU doesn't do much to improve simspeed in SupCom. But go ahead and try to overclock that 4670K :) . Then post the result in the "Let's make simspeed benchmarks" thread.

If you replace a CPU Integrated GPU Unit(IGP) with an external GPU the CPU can use more of the TDP for its computations, so it isnt throttled. The dedicated memory of the GPU does also take the load off the memory bandwidth between cpu and ram. I think upgrading to a dedicated graphic solution should almost always improve the cpu speed.

Of course, when using integrated GPU, your simspeed would be slightly lower. However, nearly anyone with a K chip also has an aftermarket cooler on it, so TDP is not an issue. But I guess the iGPU can use some of the bandwidth of the chip to memory. However, the difference would be hardly noticeable. Maybe in benchmarks...
