Reducing the impact of map borders

Postby Wakke » 16 Nov 2013, 15:30

A really simple idea here: reduce the impact of the the artificial map borders by expanding maps on all sides with strips of land/mountains/water (depending on map) without any mass or hydro spots on them. Starting locations and existing mass/hydro spots remain the same, of course. The size of these extra 'border areas' can be as much as 10% to even 50% of the map's size (to be investigated/tweaked).

By doing so, we:
- Remove the impact that is imposed by the map's real borders
- Open up new strategies, attack paths,...
- etc...

It's very possible, some maps do this already. It just requires to redo all maps. Let's ask Prince ;-)

What i would happy is just allowing us to reclaim units which crash off map and also being able to see when someone is off maping air units.
But maybe forcing back the wreck inside the borders would be better sollution than expanding the map?

Can't you just play hanna oasis or great void or something? There are already a ton of maps like this, I don't get it.

I don't really know what this would fix. There are other reasons besides mass and energy to go to the edge of the map.

Yeah, I know there are already maps using this. It's just that imo, all maps can benefit from this layout.

It's a map problem. Feel free to make your own maps.
