Auto-overcharging

Postby Poch » 08 Nov 2013, 20:29

Hi

I was wondering if it would be possible to make a mod to enable units with overcharge capability to automatically use it when its available instead of having to set the order manually ? Think of some sort of toggle button (like right click on the overcharge button) that would toggle the auto-oc feature.

Now, i have some questions :
  • 1. How hard would it be ?
  • 2. Would it be a sim-mod or an ui-mod ? I think it's UI only since it has to do with unit control, but i'm not sure...
  • 3. How would you feel about such a feature ? Useless, good idea or just OP ?
  • 4. Is it possible actually if i have multiple overcharge-capable units selected to split the OC orders with SHIFT+G like for attack orders ?

Thanks for your answers !

Personally I like OC as a micro heavy feature, Its nice to see the ACU is personally controlled whenever you see overcharges happening.

This would be perfect for that moment when you are building your first t2 power, you have 6 k storage, are -28 power, and BAM your ACU uses all your storage to overcharge a scout that wanders too close.

Yeah i like to think i'm good enough to micro my ACU myself ^^

But for sera SCUs, unless you're running -5 simspeed past 3 units, it is impossible to use the feature decently, for a lot of reasons. For example if only 1 sacu can't overcharge (reload time), the icon is greyed for all of them, and you can't use OC until they are all reloaded. And optimizing the shots, etc, is perfectly impossible to do while you're playing if you can't watch them 100% of the time :(

But back to topic, if it were done, would it be an UI mod or a sim-mod ?

Anything that auto issues commands to a unit is a sim mod. It doesnt seem like it should be, but the way it is setup, it is forced into being a sim mod. Or another way to put it, the UI cannot issue commands. The issue command... command... is only on the sim side. The UI can pass the trigger for a command to be issued, but it cannot issue them directly.

Thanks for explaining that seyia. But i was wondering about the mods that auto-enable/disable the mass fabs. Isn't that action a command too ?

This is one advantage of having a mouse with more than the traditional two buttons..... I have overcharge, reclaim, and assist keyed to the extra buttons on my mouse so I can just select unit and double tap to use an action. Makes life a whole lot easier.
