Should I install SupCom and FA in Steam?

Postby Streaks » 30 Oct 2013, 00:17

Hi. I am new to FAF, but not to FA.

This post is related to these ones:
1. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=3195463
2. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5650

After reading the above posts, you should have a better understanding of my problem. I HAVE TO FINISH SUPCOM AND FA AND SUPCOM2. It's been what, a decade more or less?

But how can I if the ^%&^@# Cybran "Operation Unlock" is busted in my system? (As stated in the above posts). So I believe it is time to reinstall this game.

I have the BOXED GOLD EDITION:
Should I install it via Steam?
Or should I install it as stand-alone and just patch it manually?

PS: I hope that, when I do reinstall it, that my profile will still be ok. Who would want to find out that "Operation Unlock" is still broken after reinstalling this old game?

PPS: I am talking about the Vanilla Campaigns (SC1 and SC:FA Campaigns).

FA or Vanilla campaign? You can play all the campaigns online through FAF.

personally there is little reason to prefer one over the other except that if you have ever or intend to test with prior balance iterations then stick with the gold edition. Steam is based at 3603. If you already have the gold edition just go ahead anad install that. You might want to back game.prefs or your profile. Im not 100% where all that info is stored exactly though.

Vanilla Campaign.

Wait...so, if I install FAF, I get to play the SC1 and SC:FA Vanilla Campaigns - THRU FAF?

If so, will my profile still be good? I do not want to start the campaigns from scratch. I just want to mow through them A.S.A.P.

I should be done with the SC1 Cybran Campaign by now, if only "Operation Unlock" wasn't all screwed up.

Go and have a look at the co op tab, you can do the missions in any order.

Currently the last 3 Cybran mission aren't complete though. So you will have to wait for them before you can finish it.

UPDATE:

I have just activated my GOLD EDITION in Steam. Hopefully when I install SupCom1 with Steam, I could continue my campaign.

I mean SERIOUSLY!

(I just bought 3 games in Steam, but I can barely think about them because my heart and soul are crying out, "SUPCOM1!"

I'll be God Dammmmned Flabergasted and Flummmoxxed if I encounter the same exact PROBLEM!!! Same exact problem would mean...my profile is broken?

SO PRAY FOR ME!!!

(It's a 4.9GB download).

Someone did mention that to me.

But then it was mentioned afterward that as far as the Cybran Campaign is concerned, it only goes as far as Mission 3 in FAF.

i dont really get what you want, if you have the gold version then you can play the campain locally no matter if steam/faf or nothing, the only thing steam does is offering a basic system for hosting games it does nothing about campain in anyway
