Most efficient way to upgrade economy?

Postby Snakeb1te » 24 Oct 2013, 23:34

Obviously reclamation takes precedence over anything else when one wants to improve his eco game, but I'd like to know the most efficient ways (in order) of upgrading your eco. According to the FA guide online somewhere its something like:

1. As many T1 mex as possible
2. Then upgrade one T1 mex at a time, surround with mass storage before upgrading another to T2 (as many times as possible)
3. Then upgrade a T2 mex to T3 one at a time.
4. T2 Fabricators surrounding T3 power gens
5. Resource Allocation upgrades
6. Resource Allocation upgrades for SCUs
7. T3 Fabricators

Is that correct? Also what's the general rule regarding energy storage? I usually build at least 1 before upgrading factory or ACU to t2, but I never spot what advanced players do in shoutcasts.

not quite any more:

put 5 in between 2 and 3
7 doesn't exist :)
also you can surround mexes after all of them are at t2, or one at a time (i think all of them after t2 is better)

energy storage is subjective - just build if you need OC, and i prefer to build a few as time goes on just in case im going to spend a lot of power, just dont build it near anything :)

It is actually more efficient to upgrade t1 mex to t2 (4 extra mass income for 720 mass), than surround t2 mex with storages (3 extra mass income for 800 mass).

Isn't upgrading a t2 mex 900 mass? Still more efficient, but not quite as much.

Yes I did think it a little strange that 800mass for +3 was better than 900mass for +4.

Energy storage has quite a small explosion radius now doesn't it? I was under the impression it had been nerfed, thus allowing it to be constructed nearer to things now.

P.S. thanks for all the responses.

You should surround a t2 mex with storage right before you upgrade it to t3 because you basically get the storages for free.

Sorry, for some reason I thought that t2 upgrade costs 720. But still it's a bit more efficient than storages. Actually, mass wise, t2 fabricator is good if you use its adjacency bonus. It's small - about 13%, but if you surround t2 mex with such and start upgrade, you'll get +7 mass total (+4 basic and +3 adjacency).

The storage around a mex is better than fabs for upgrading. On a t2 mex the storage gives you +3 production, so you have to count that against the discount you get, and additionally you have to reclaim the fabs and build storage for your 50% bonus on the t3 mex, and if you assist the upgrade you lose your bonus........ all in all unless you do it perfectly and take your time, you don't gain much or any mass, and in view of the rest of the game it is a totally worthless procedure.
