The New Ladder System ???

Postby Bliss » 22 Oct 2013, 14:05

Having found yet no threads about the new ladder system I decided to open this one to discuss about it.

I find the new system very "irritating"

First , it doesn't solve the problem that who plays more is advantaged imho , second It leads to strange situations where a player who ladders less frequently can be in lower leagues than less skilled players and mess up the whole league system.

Moreover , making some basic calculations i need 225 points to get again to t3 which was my previous league...

Considering an usual win rate of about 50% , some losses to lower fake players and some wins vs higher players ... i smell somthing like 400 matches to get again to t3 which is an incredible amount of games !!!! crazy !!!! all for what ?? being deleted again once new season starts ..

This system is everything but rewarding. :x

I come from Starcraft II ... the nice thing about ladder system there is that you are pushed to play to get THAT promotion ... In this case it's just a sum of points to uslessly get an high league and lose it soon after...

This new FAF system is easy but very static.... I think the optimal thing is a dynamic ladder where you can easily get your division but you are downgraded if you lose a lot vs lower players. And then can get your higher league again by getting a good winning streak.

I think we should push people to ladder ... but these numbers can only discourage people from doing so.

The leagues and ranks are not supposed to be reset after each season. What is meant by your score is reset after a new league is reached is that you need to progress again from zero once you've reached a new league in order to get to the new one, but you cannot go below zero and cannot regress in the lower league.

This system is to promote more games, reward the players who play more and remove the fear of losing too much if you are defeated. If you play regularly, it should be easy to reach the middle league, t2, but hard to go to the higher tiers leagues. It's also meant to be more simple to grasp than the previous system and to allow gaining access to higher tier league independantly from season change.

First : I think it should be specified in the what's new Tab that the reset won't happen every season

Second .. the number of the games needed are incredibly high ... I assume this new system is to be considered more annual than seasonal ...

but my fear is that it's not rewarding... i feel like we need something simpler...like : everyone get a league based on his actual 1v1 rating. he keeps playing. if he sucks for some ladder matches , he is downgraded , if he is playing good he's promoted....

I feel like a fast & dynamic promotion/demotion is more rewarding and represents better the player state of skill .

In fact if your rating is true you are not going to be demoted , if you are playing better you get to play with better opponents and have opportunities to get promoted .

What's the point of a ladder then? If I understand you well, you seem to want just the truskill rating and no separate ladder. The new system aims at rewarding people for playing even if they don't win all the time because they don't lose too much if they lose. And, indeed, it's meant to last beyond seasons, and maybe more than a year (but at least one full year).

IMO, the sanction of being downgraded is precisely what scares a lot of people from playing more games once they've reached their limit. I don't think that being able to sit down on what you've achieved and then stop playing for fear of being downgraded is good thing.

Also, the new system was supposed to add a small penalty for not playing during a week, but maybe it's not easy to add.

Stop whining!
New system made to encourage you to play more,
New system is more complex as previos.
New system adds relations between legues, so it is not just one win one point.
If you have better system you can suggest it or even code it.
League system not affect raings of any kind.
If you play less it is easyer for you to get higher league, cause players of your rating range already there.
Leage system only affect this small icon in chat, and you will eventually get it back if you play ranked.
Most of people do not care about leage, and many do not play ranked at all, so do not make drama of it, you are making Zep sad :(

Maybe it is possible to reduce amount of games that need to be played, but whole goal to encorage to play more, so play more pls :)

Zep is sad cause he actually listen to all whining people that said that system is bad and they do not want play 600 games to geach their leagure, but all this whinning is irrelevant, they just not want to play ranked but want to have good leagure :P

It's a grind, pure and simple. I have no objections to the LADDER as it is, and leaving that on the leaderboards (isn't what they are for..?) i'd just rather the divisions were there to track how good you are rather than how much you play.
Alternatively if the numbers on points were tweaked. Which will probably happen as it goes, I guess. The numbers right now I think are more placeholders

Hey ZLO! I did not want to grow any polemic for sure, just wanted to talk together about it.

No one is offending anyone , no one is pretending anything.

I think until discussion is positive it can only help.

I was the first to say : hey let's start laddering and let's see how it turns out , no one wants Zep sad , and he shouldn't get offendend for sure since he's always doing a great work.
