Waiting times

Postby Mr-Smith » 08 Oct 2013, 22:09

Did we already reached the critical point?

Do we actually spend more time in the lobby than in-game?

Is it possible to get some statistivs about that Zep?

maybe something like how long it takes to start a game with 8 players :D

It seems to me that this is only a problem in the high ranking games.... when I host "1k-1800" I can fill a lobby in under 5 minutes 90% of the time, and we have a game going within 1-2 minutes after swapping a couple people for balance. The vast majority of the time we have a good game and everyone has a good time.

When you start getting the 1800+ players (this does not apply to all of them, but..... yeah) especially if there is a very high ranked player hosting then you get into the lobby wait times. There is 10 minutes of talking, and then 10 minutes of hypothetical situations, and then 5 minutes of arguing over the balance, and then 10 more minutes while sorting out positions etc etc etc. By the time you start the game after discussing it, you could have ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME! Then you throw in the fact that a lot of times, when you have certain players in the mix, if one thing goes wrong either the top guys go "game lost" and quit, therefore throwing the game, or they just go braindead because they think they already know the outcome. Just play the game! I promise you will feel better for having actually tried and you also won't be wasting 7 other people's time.

BTW, this does not just apply to setons.... I have had the above scenario on wonder and other maps.

My favourite one is when you have been waiting for ages with 7/8 and then a player comes along, the rest of the group take too long to sort out balance, the player gets offended/the wrong idea and thinks he is not wanted, quits then you are back to 7/8 again!

I see many games getting made pretty fast, but i seem to be at a rating that keeps me apart. I'm not high enough to be pro and yet not low enough to be noob. So i kinda get left without a game to join and/or can't find people to join mine. Again, I think its just that im at a rating that doesn't have a large base. But I could be wrong about that assumption.

It's just psychological, grass is greener on the other side.

I have almost no wait time to get ladder matches going (just over 1000 in 1v1 rating), and the few times ive started a custom match it normaly filles up pretty fast. In Europe so maybe I'm just lucky playing peek times :) Have playd at some odd hours where it have been a bit slower, but still fast in that rating range.

What i noticed is that sometimes where i have to wait for more than "1 minute" for ladder, if i deselect the ladder join/queue button and then select it again i get in a match instantly. Not sure if it is a bug or not but, i do it from time to time and many times i then get a match instantly.
