Replay desync

Postby whootle » 04 Oct 2013, 14:11

Hi guys,

Referring to Replay 1308722 (a 5+ hour game by the way!)

Some are interested in watching it but the one in the online vault seems to suffer from desyncs after about 35 mins game time. I've checked the one in the online vault and my local one and they both have this problem.

I've heard the cause of this is when one or more of the player(s) leave the game using Alt-F4. Are there any other known causes?

Is there a chance one of the other players' local ones would not suffer this problem, or will they all necessarily have the desync errors? Thanks.

AFAIK (but I'm not the definitive source on this matter):

It can happen if a player loses connection or exits via any method other than the score button.

It will affect all local copies of the game and the server copy.

If you continue to watch the game after the desync occurs, what you're watching may not reflect reality at all (which I was amazed at TBH).

Actually, I had a desync in a replay from a game today, where I left (via the score button) and then it desynced in the replay (on the server), so leaving via the score button has fuggall to do with it.

Yeah, I think Ze_Pilot mentioned somewhere that it was an urban legend (that Alt-F4 causes it).

He also said that it was just a command that causes it and that he could probably fix it if someone can tell him what that command is. I'd do it but I have no idea what is involved...
