FAQ and Wiki

Postby ZOB » 12 Jan 2012, 12:45

Hi guys, newbie here.

Been playing TA since it came out, and FA for a couple of years.I'm an internet and networking ignoramus but managed to get multiplayer games happening on a home network fine. Atm my connection is a pre paid usb stick thing, but my house has some kind of gray Telecom (telstra) box on the front so useful speed/ping could be reached.

I read in this form that there is a wiki but I can't find it. Doh. The FAQ is to use the forum but i need one to understand what is going on here.

Eg, do i have to deal with these steam/GPG dudes? I have never done anything with them in the past and would like to keep it that way.

What software do i need to install and in what order?

Can i install 3610 over3599 or do i need the ones in between as well.
Can i install 3610 over a fresh FA ?
Many other newbie questions.

Just point me at the wiki or shoot me and put me out of my misery

Thanks in advance

Cheers, ZOB

Welcom to FAF community, ZOB! (interesting nickname...)
Here is the wiki:

http://www.faforever.com/mediawiki/inde ... _.28FAQ.29

Not sure you can find all the answers to your questions there, but it'll be a good start.

Thanks pip!

The wiki only seems to have info on how to play. I need to know how to install.

Do i need the steam software if i only want to faf?

Could someone make a sticky or something?

I'm sure there are many people who would like to play but are discouraged from joining faf by the unclear patching sequence/process.

Also i am thinking of a pc upgrade. FA supports 6cores/12 threads yes? Anyone have any interesting CPU/GPU advice?

Cheers, ZOB

I still need some help with the problems above, dudes. I also can't see the home page of this site, the screen stays blank and it never displays. When i click back i see the page for an instant (.1 sec) and then it goes away. :-( Is that important? Is there stuff i need there?

What is your browser? Try using a different one, anyway.

Check the FAF tech support forum for Steam install.

It's a standard wiki site (exactly the same as wikipedia), If something is wrong, I can't do much.
You are the only one with that problem as far as I know, so I'm pretty sure your browser is faulty :)

Thank you Pilot. Howdy. I can get to wikipedia's homepage no problemo.

It only matters if there is something I need there.

It's a bit strange because I'm sure i saw it a few months ago.

I disabled AVG and ad block.

I'm using FFox 9.0.1 and a virgin install of chrome just for you!

I'm not sure what else i can do here.

Try third browser?

pip-thanks man but do i actually need steam?

Anyone feel like having a go at some of my earlier questions?

Thanks Anaryl!

Today I can see the homepage with chrome but not Ffox.

I never thought of playing with pre paid wireless. How much data would be used for a 1 v 1 game?
The Telstra box will give me broadband if i can find the $
