how is it that i played the offical thermo map today and it said "map is unranked" ?? as far as i see from the code ther are no restrictions so far for that map.

They are all unranked yes.

that is pretty sad ...
On what reason you unranked it? just because it has such a simple heightmap?

I played it with no rules / restriction and as far as i see there is no reason for makeing that map unraked.
We already have a ton of thermo maps that are unraked because of ther unit restrictions.

there were many really imbalanced thermo maps in the vault (extreme like a mavor wreck on one side, nothing on the other), also the map scrips disabled air, nukes etc so the game would still be ranked
this one was the main reason why thermo was first banished from the vault but then allowed again under these circumstances

Also people are playing with no build restrictions in the lobby while adding arbitrary rules (like no air/no cliff/whatever), messing up the rating system.

well i have no problem with making imbalanced maps unranked.
or maps with restrictions.

but making thermo unranked just because ppl could make rules when they host it.

Than you would have to make setons unranked because the have their stupid mixing navy rule.
If i would host setons and tell the ppl in the lobby its no air/navy its actually thermo...

would be nice if you would not start making normal maps that are balanced unranked.

and well if you put 8 noobs in a game tell them that air/nuke/sat/tele/para/arty/tml/drones/hill is not allowed
at 10 min someone would start with air because he does not speak englsih at all... other team would build air than to... someoen would teamkill him. and than the rest rage quites.

you could easily farm rating on these maps

get an imbalanced map (mavor wreck on your side, the others get nothing), no air/nukes/drones/gameender guaranteed by mapscript so you don't have to disable them in the lobby, your game is still ranked and you just bash your opponents

Im not talking about maps with mavor wrecks on one side.

Im talking about the offical thermo map, or thermo v3

those maps have no wrecks at all.
they dont have any restriction in their map script.
and are still unraked.

and that should not be.

thermo maps never had any problem with being rated in the past. just when those maps came up that disabled units per script.it got a bit of a problem.

Because of the implicit rules. And "no air" it's far worst than "not mixing navies".

Though, I am deeply plunged in sin, and the last thing I would like is to criticise other people's tastes, I find that you really miss a lot if you play thermo without air and hills. In fact I would like to play in maps where your base may be vulnerable from above the hill.. Not necessarily thermo, the only defect of which imo, is the huge corridor in the middle and the huge hills that inhibit mobility; no fantasy at all.
Anyway , I think that if no script twists the default rules in thermo, it should be ranked. I could understand the ban ,though, if such scripts are hard to find and disable. A twisting of the rating system exists one way or another nevertheless. There are people that enjoy ridiculously high ratings with a ridiculous lack of variety in the maps they play(I am no Saint, I have abused this fact myself; Isis anyone? :roll: )
I hate to repeat simple truths, but someone has to do it.
The opposite is true; there are players with negative ratings(for whatever reason) that are anything but noobs. A match with such a player could ruin the playing experience of true noobs.
Another truth is the sick attempt by some to distort the true spiritt of SupCom, by introducing in a sneaky way maps that bypass the default rules of the game. An unranking of thermo as punishment for such behavior though not according to my way of thinking, is understandable.
An extreme, though maybe effective and easy to implement way to deal with the above problems, is unranking every game that is not ladder, as a first step. One could also go on increasing the variety of the ladder maps, or introduce a 2v2 ladder if there's spare time willingness and knowledge.
