No Mercy Rule

Postby Karottenrambo » 03 Jan 2012, 15:37

Since one player, who randomly throws with wrong facts, seems to be able to prevent the mercy rebalance. It would be nice at least to add a "no mercy rule" to the unit restrictions with the next patch, until mercies are fixed, because (choose the one you like most):
- many players are noobs
- many players are annoyed of their imbaness
- many players can't micro their aa as good as ubergeek
- they are ugly
- something else

I saw already some games with "No mercy" in the title yesterday (yes, they meant the unit).

No, the "No air" restriction will not do it, because it (suprisingly )removes every air unit from the game.

No.

And nobody is preventing a mercy rebalance. Read the balance forum rules again.

You are acting like it's so obvious that mercies are broken.
But I don't see a SINGLE forum thread on gpg forums about it.

I'm willing to test a detonation range reduction in next patch, even if I'm pretty sure it won't change anything (a distracted flak will stay distracted).

The only balance that can solve things is to make the energy beam not leading (like tml).
But in that case, a range reduction is a up, not a nerf, so it need testing to get the correct range.

BUT

I won't do a balance change just because some guys are saying that something is like this or that.

I'm pretty sure that if I start saying that Pillars are OP, and start making "No Pillars game", you will see some people following me blindly with weird arguments. Like the mercy thread I've closed.

Pillars are OP!
They have more hp AND dps than blaze, but cost less!

;)

On Topic:
Range nerv gives AA more time to turn after being distracted. Gives the player (distance range nerv)/(mercy speed) time to micro his/her AA.

Can we apply that rule to the FAF chat?
They're talking about them weeks, and do it the whole day endlessly. Like forum isn't enough...

So tired of this shit :(

Balance should be decided based upon empirical evidence, and vetted through an official testing process, and not willy-willy thrown about based a handful of opinions generated by biased players. (yes, myself included)

Yes. The balance forum is there to avoid that in the chat.

I agree to Karottenrambo.

I would like a no mercy rule in unit manager.

I also agree that a few (who are very active in this forum) are very loud about not changing mercies, while a majority of players (who dont post here) are for changing mercies. In games where mercies are used I read more ranting and swearing than a teammate who says "well played", "good tactic", "youre a good player" or any other compliment.

The loser team is mostly ranting, and the winner team is quiet, because they won, but not really proud.

Of course here in the forums it will always seem that a majority is "pro mercy", because 90% of the players dont even check the forums once a month. An option wouldnt kill anyone.

Players already started to host "no mercy" games like in good old times after the DLC units were released in... 2008?

This is because the mercy imbalance is hidden under other imbalances in 3599.

In 1v1, Seraphim ACU regen and Mongoose/Hoppy spam is stronger than mercies, are abused, and make the mercy imbalance by comparison. The same applies to team games in that the T3 Air overpoweredness completely overshadows the mercy imbalance. It's hard to make mercies seem viable when it's extremely cheap to tech to T3 air and spam ASFs. Everybody in 3599 spams ASFs quickly enough such that the entirety of T2 air, mercies included, never really sees use.

Further, as the main page clearly states, FAF is "community-driven". If the community wants this feature, we should give it to them.

The idea is great as long as it comes in a full unit manager control as in you're able to disable each single unit depending on ur tastes.

otherwise the pic already used by karotte should apply ->
