UEF Acu drones upgrade

Postby Iszh » 30 Aug 2013, 09:54

I wanted to ask something in here, i just tested the uef drone upgrade and i ve been wondering why nobody is using it. Then i found out, the reason is that this upgrade is a disadvantage and not really and advantage.

Advantages of a drone:
-Can help the acu while attacking at front with cheap increase of built power by 100% (cancelled by disadvantages)
-Can reach Islands and built factories there (cancelled by disadvantages)

Disadvantages of a drone:
-Can be shot by interceptors no matter if flying or sitting on acu
-Shot drones will not remove the upgrade but force a mass waste
-Drone upgrade is not really advanced when you do second upgrade because the drones always have 5 built power and the engi plans of a t1 acu

Conclusion:
The drone can at the moment only be used in early game to reach some reclaim at the border of the map but a transport is faster and better because whole reclaiming at least interceptors cannot shoot you once you landed. So i think the use of the drones should be closer to the acu to support it. But for this they need a possible protection. When they can be protected the question appears since they are for early game if this "triple upgrade UEF acu ist not overpowered and should not be changed for late game use.

Suggestions:

1.When acu drones are at the shoulder sitting they should be like planes in aircraft carrier save from interceptors. So acu can stop building to hide them when planes come close and when enemy has no air supriority you have triple acu upgrade which could be great in 1v1 games. Gun engi and shoulder drones.

Danger: UEF Acu is already one of the best and could be slightly to OP in 1v1 games but i think the result would be not so extreme.

2.Realize "1." thats an essential need to make them useful and another suggestion to avoid the to strong UEF acu in 1v1 games make them available for late game playing. Increase the built costs and give the Acu the drones of the Sacus. So the uef acu could have instead of shield in late game much more built power i think every drone has 20. So uef acu would have 40 built power more means 130. That would be ok in late game compared to double RAS.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If i see something wrong with those drones tell me plz but lately Aeon acu upgrade was buffed like crazy and i can see this drone upgrade is somehow not useful at all.

Edit: I know there is not done a patch in the nearest time, thats just to discuss already what could be done in future not to forget about this

I have only ever used the drone to reach some areas that an engineer would take time to do- e.g getting over some terrain
The speed is too low to use to go anywhere so it's pretty pointless on almost all maps.
I do agree it needs some sort of change

I think first drone is nice for its price. As you said its good for early reclaim/island getting. And its so cheap that it doesnt hurt if you just cancel it in midgame in order to get a better upgrade on that slot. I dont know about the second drone upgrade if its usefull for its mass cost. I actually never saw it in game. Maybe that2nd upgrade could get some of those buffs in stats andcosts to make it an lategame option.
