The New Counter to Aeon

Postby Astrofoo » 11 Aug 2013, 04:33

There has been much discussion recently that the Aeon faction could be overpowered. I will not give my opinion either way, but I have discovered(possibly) a counter to them. The Seraphim T2 Hover Tank. Now before you laugh, I have a replay to show you. It can be found at the bottom of this post. It was a match I played against Aulex on the 10x10 version of Crossfire Canal. Me and Aulex are very evenly matched most of the time. In this particular match he got significantly ahead, but as you will see, the Seraphim T2 Hover Tank had a huge impact on the ending result of the game. You will notice that my start was quite noob, due to unfamiliarity with the map in a 1v1 setting.(This is what me and Aulex were trying to address as we both were unfamiliar with the map.) In any case this replay should be good if at least for some entertainment value.

...the balance guys might even have a poke at it.....

Napalm and I are testing, i'll post the replay shortly

Edit - Testing complete

Conclusions
All tests were done mass per mass
All tests included micro (some shitty micro :D) This means probably less realistic in large games but more in smaller ones

Auroras vs Floaty Tanks
-In small numbers floaty tanks win
-In large numbers such as 100 auroras and 25 t2 tanks, floaty tanks win
-In very large numbers like 200 auroras and 50 t2 tanks, auraora win

Auroras + shields vs Floaty Tanks
-In small numbers floaty tanks win
-In large numbers auroras win

Auroras + shields vs Floaty tanks + shields
-Auroras win

Blazes vs Floaty tanks
-Floaty tanks win

Blazes + Shields vs Floaty tanks
-Floaty tanks win (possibly bad shield micro so not really conclusive)

Possible Solution
Currently an aurora takes 280 build time to create and a floaty tank takes 880, so we see a less than 4x build time for floaty tank, but mass per mass floaty tank wins. We could fix this by increasing build time to 1k (just threw a number out there, no testing done about it) so they amass less.

The hover tanks were cool and all. But I don't think I saw a single fight where the Auroras outnumbered the hovertank. Plus, any unit is OP when your enemy doesn't make something to fight it.
However, with how damn fast they are now, I might give them a try.

What we found so insane about it was that if you try t2 gunships, hover flak denies that. If you try t1 pd, hover arty denies that as well. It's like a complete package deal. Also I think we should wait for Aulex and Napalm's tests. They are doing mass for mass comparisons.

you can just build the chickenbots as seraphim?
in most situations they will beat the obsidians.
if you pay attention you can kite them to the corner pf the map.
they have more range than obsi
effectively they have more hp than obsi due to overkill
they totally own t1
they have basically the same dps.
and althouh i thought they had less it seems like they have same speed (correct me)
with shields it gets a bit harder but you are still able to beat obsi.
and btw:
aurora + shields vs floaty -> aurora loses
aurora + shields vs floaty + shields floaty loses

Wait a minute. T2 Units win vs T1 Units (especially Auroras) and thats something that needs a fix?

as I've said several times, aurora are countered by about anything in the game but T1 Tank. (and that's not even entirely true if you don't retreat blindly).

Seems that people start realize that, it's about time :)

(and by the way, it's not a news at all, it was already the case since 3599).

To be fair, the point of my thread was not to cry OP. It was to show that this unit that no one had built for the last five years is now actually viable, and not only viable, effective. I was in shock when I saw this, and I wanted to make a thread telling others so they would make this unit. If after a couple months(which is what happens anyway) the unit is found to be OP, then we will discuss balancing.
