Directionnal explosions

I've read that thread this morning : http://forums.uberent.com/forums/viewto ... 64&t=48314

Of course some people said it was CPU-intensive or whatever to do.
Somebody said it was easy because you already know the vector of the projectile, and he is right.

I though it was a good idea.

On top of it I've said it was trivial to implement into an engine like FA.
And like every time I'm saying something is easy, I do it to prove it, so here is it :



(be sure to look at it in HD and fullscreen, or the particles would impossible to see).

If you like it, well, it's already implemented, I just need to release it.

Personally, I also though FA explosions was lacking some kick, and that kind of directional feel on the blast is quite nice.

The new effects in general are awesome, and this takes them up another notch. Thanks to all involved for the continued improvements.

Wow that is awesome. I would LOVE to see that effect implemented. It just takes the real physics simulation in FA a step further.

To me the source of the explosion does not seem to be the projectiles but rather the tank itself going pop after being hit ie. by some energy source exploding inside them. Thus I would say that the effect looks unrealistic. I can however imagine that being the effect for a small tank being blown away by a projectile of the same size as itself ie. in a T4 vs T1 battle.

Its pretty cool. Might be a bit exaggerated to see parts of the tank flying like 10 times to size of the tank, especially as its been killd by an aurora with its soap bubble gun, but hey, who actually cares?

What happens if a beam kills solething? Like, a GC killing a ML?
Does the effect scales up with the projectile or the unit suze (rather the unit size atm, I guess)?
What happens if you crtl+k an unit? You get the old randomly flying around parts?

If no vector is given, the default debris occur.

It scale with the unit, and it currently happen with lasers too (can be tweaked).
